I understand how you feel because seven years ago, I lost my father to complications of untreated Lyme disease. (His diagnosis came too late & we knew too little.)

It's difficult to find something positive to hold on to, but his diagnosis, treatment and then his improvement are a blessing. Surely, the improvement gave him more quality of life than he would have had.

To answer a few of your questions:
Yes.. it was a lyme related cause as to why we lost my father, although timing and lack of preparation were the worse part of the whole series of events that took his life..

He had severe dysphasia (Difficulty swallowing) the first mechanism wasn't working at all; the second one did rather well.
first off he developed a cold or allergy the day before which he filled up with more congestion than normal, the second was, but he had to shovel his food in all the time, he was always being told not to! that along with extreme mucous build up when he would eat. At dinner a piece of food got stuck in his throat and no one could remove it in time for him to get oxygen to his brain. The instructions were not accurate (911) for the situation; he had hair on his chest and the officer could not get the patches to stick, by the time he was given mouth to mouth and his hair was shaved the EMS arrived.. and resuscitation was administered too late..he died on the kitchen floor and was brought back only to be found severe brain damage (virtually dead)in a Coma and with no chance of recovery, his body was burning itself up. 108.68.
Tuesday afternoon he was made comfortable and his body began to shut down.
Please take heed and if your loved one has slight or severe dysphasia and they develope a cold I would take extra precuations. Even put them back on 'Thick-it' or something until they get past the congestion! Thinking back I guess there was more we could have done to prevent this.. yet truly, we have no control over the timing..
My father had many months of quality before leaving, something he did not have before the treatment of Lyme.. He was metally alert, was learning to walk again, we had him out on weekly trips to breakfast, lunch or the mall..Quality that he had not had for many years before...He left on a positive, which means more than anything in the world. He is at peace, and watching over all of us now. thank you for listening. and caring..

As I too have lost my Dad and Mom (within a year of each other) I know nothing anyone can say can make you feel better.

One thing I can share with you - Hold on to the good memories, talk about him every day, and he will always be alive in your heart.

I too have the problem of not being able to swallow at times. I go to taking in liquids at that time.

Your message helped me to know to take this more seriously than I was.

I will talk about my dad, if no think about him every day, I know I will surely miss him a great deal, I am looking forward to being with him when i leave this place.

It was reassuring that I had the opporunity to speak with someone who had 'life after death' experience (in 1991 4 times), a month previous to my father passing away. The story I heard places my mind at ease that my father is in a better place and watching over us now as I type.
