Well, after taking off four weeks on short term disability I will be treading back to work tomorrow - probably 1/2 days.

Thankfully the staff have pulled together to keep my desk realitively clean (so I won't hit that pile upon return).

However as this day progresses, I am getting ever-more nervous about going back. I miss it, and think I'm ready, but afraid of what will happen to my body.

I will most likely be changing my abx routine - adding to the doxy 200 mg - did not tolerate the 400mg, so now looking for other abx options that will cross the bbb (i'm allergic to penicillin and rocephin).

Taking the four weeks off, was the smartest thing I did. I highly recommend, to everyone who is able to REST! REST! REST! and if you're able to stop for a while, then do!!!!

It took me almost the full four to 'feel human again' and have some endurance.

Yesterday about knocked me out, though, I took a plane flight home, then had to do some grocery shopping to restock the fridge.

Today, I'm still feeling it - boy, I can't wait for my endurance to return!!!

Thanks for listening, sorry for the vent....

Good luck with work! I'm sure you will do fine. I understand that you must be a little stressed about it. A month is not really a long time but it is when you missed all that time at work.

Make sure to take it slow the first week or two until you get back into the swing of things.

It's great that you are feeling so much better!

hugs and good luck. You're so smart to do the half days. And ps -- it's easy to stop eating right and start drinking coffee because of the fatigue. You have to be very firm with yourself not to let that happen, especially as time goes on.

All the best. I'm so glad your coworkers are so helpful. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the doxy!

Thank you, all, for your support and encouragement!! I am getting excited about seeing my coworkers again.

Tree - good question...

A few years ago an allergist did a skin test using penicillin and I had a reaction almost immediately (even with the diluted solution).

When I was dxd with LD and considering rocephin we decided to test for allergy to it (as it is a generation of penicillin).

The same allergist used the rocephin itself to create the solutions for the skin testing and my skin itself had a bad histamine-like reaction In fact 2 months out I still have marks on my arm from that skin test.

However, the doxy seems to be working, and I am feeling better (Thank goodness)

Good luck smiles! It's great that you're feeling so much better! Just remember when you go back to work, not to let yourself start falling back into the same "work, work, work" attitude you were probably in before your leave. I took a 3 month leave last summer, and was feeling a lot better when I went back to work. But I really had to make myself take it slow or I would start getting really tired again. All I'm saying is just don't push yourself!

slcd - thanks for the reminder of keeping it slow!!!

Like most posters here, I was very active - 50+ hours a week at work, easy, involved in any kind of extra-curricular activity (including grad school).

I kept up that crazy schedule, for about a month after dx - in denial - thinking, I did it all before the dx feeling crummy, why not keep going.

Then I cracked..... which is why the extend loa. I will constantly have to remind myself not to push it.

Thankfully, my friends, and particularly my boyfriend have been the little angels on my shoulders hollering "SLOW DOWN!!!".

Thank you, and other lymenet participants, for adding their voices to the "angel shoulder chorus"

I hope you're smiling today!

Remember to take breaks and stretch. And when it comes down to it, your body and mind are more important than your job.

I know, easier said than done. I myself don't follow my own advice

I sure hope it works for you. I tried returning to work 3 times since I have come down with this.

I was surprised that work was easier for me than doing household chores.

I didn't try part time. I went back full time. I didn't last long, but it was good to be there physically even if mentally I wasn't really there.

That is when I learned that I could no longer read out loud or do simple math problems.

Walking and standing were out too. Then sitting followed.

Everyone is different with this condition with the exception of needing to listen to our bodies and not over do it when we are having a good day.

How is it going?
