Hi everyone,

I have a new problem. I started on 2 medications--amoxicillion for Lyme, and norvasc for high blood pressure. Unfortunately I am not positive about this, but I believe my problem started BEFORE taking the medicine, but if anything it started after 1 day of it.

I have a 13 month old son, nursed him for 4 months, and have not nursed him since. The other day I noticed that my breasts were large and swollen, and has twinges of pain just like when I was nursing. yesterday I noticed that I am lactating!

I have no idea why. Could it be Lyme? Maybe I am crazy and it did start after the meds and it id due to them? I didn't find them on the lists on meds that would cause that, though. Hmmm...something else to worry about.

Any advice?

Sara

Hi Sara,

I think it could be Lyme.

I have to tell you that when I was about 19 - that is 17 years ago - before I was noticeably ill, but surely infected already - I FREAKED because this happened to me. And, I had NEVER had a child by then!!!

LOL, (just remembered) my doctor at the time asked me if I had been playing with my nipples a lot - or if someone else had!!! Because he said doing this can bring on lactation.

I guess this makes sense as this is how they "made" wet-nurses in the old days.

Anyway, this was certainly not my cause.

So, I would get it checked as there could be other causes, but I do think it could be the Lyme

Hi,

From what I have read and seen here including myself this is common part of lyme. It is in the list of symptoms. Mine comes when herxing or relapsing.

Doctor freaked when I showed him, assumed brain tumor, but there was none. Most of us get this, I beleive anyway.

When I was breastfeeding, I used to say LOL that I had enough milk to feed the neighborhood children.

I think having said that women who have LOTS of breast milk and give to other women to breast feed may have lyme. This is only my theory and I am not a scientist or a doctor.

It may come and go. I would still tell the doc and they can check your prolatin levels, but mine are always normal.

Thank you so much for the post.

This did start when I started to feel worse, so maybe it is part of herxing. The past week has been rough for me, and that is when this began.

I am going to get my prolactin levels checked to be safe, and if need be, I will get an MRI to make sure it isn't a pituitary tumor, but I doubt it is because I had an MRI less than 6 months ago to check for MS. It was normal, they didn't see any tumors or any lesions.

My guess is it's just part of the lyme, like you said--especially if the prolactin is normal. I'll let you know--I should get the results of that test back tomorrow evening!

What did you do to "treat" it when it happened? Did you just avoid any stimulation and it went away on its own? How long did it stick around? I guess the bright side is I get to have some more 'assets' for a little while.

Thanks again,
Sara

I had this also...in the 80's and the 90's and then again in 2000's.

Looking back...I am guessing it was lyme related but I had not been dx then.

Hello again,

I haven't had it as bad as I did last year at my sickest. I will never forget it, as right before I went down with major symptoms, I thought my breasts were looking pretty firm and round.

Thought- BONUS!!!!!

I had been working out for awhile and thought that must be the reason. Well little did I know I had lyme disease and when I read the list of symptoms I saw it.

How I know it is there is my shirt, as I bad habit of not wearing a bra, will be damp a bit, not wet.

The heavy milk was after I had my son. It is not wetting my shirt a lot or anything. I don't know if stimulation affects this or not, i never noticed.I think this happens when the keets are having a party in the hypothalmus/pitutary area of the brain. I think I read this somewhere. I think it can come with increased sexual desire, but am not sure.

It is one of my least bothersome of symptoms so have not paid much attention, and would probably forget if I remembered anyway, cause of my neuro symptoms.

Hope your test is normal and everything is okay.

Thank you, Lymie.

I got my test results back.

Prolactin levels--normal...BUT...

I'M PREGNANT!!! Not bad news, I felt pretty good during my last pregnancy, but here is my predicament--

I have never heard of someone lactating 2 weeks into a pregnancy! Is it possible that I still had some left over from my 13 month old son, even though I haven't nursed for 9 months, and these new hormones stimulated it??

Hmmm, I wonder.

Congrats,

Yes you could have had milk left over from your son. My milk lasted a long time after my son, and my aunt told me hers lasted a year.

Make sure your doc knows about the lyme and meds and all that and LLMD as they may need to change your medication, but I thought Dr. B's guidelines recommend amoxillian for lyme in pregnancy.
