Hey,
I just relapsed back into my lyme symptoms after a 3 mo. period of doing much, much better. I hadn't had abx in about a year. I found out I had a severe b-12 deficiency causing many of my neuro. symptoms and after fixing that problem and doing away with a false MS dx, I was feeling so good.
Now, out of nowhere, my lyme sx of eye pain and blurryness, brain fog, h/a (even with topamax), joint pain (even with avinza), fever daily, exhaustion, forgetfulness, flu-like symptoms, back pain, is ALL coming back.
It seems even some of the neuro pain that was better is returning.
My doc is wanting to do the PCR test from Igenex which as you know the ins. will not pay for, on Mon. so $500 ! Yep, I guess that is to find out what kind of tx to use?
Not, sure. does someone know?
Both my WB tests were + one 1.5 years ago and one about 6 mo. ago...IgM and IgG both + both times. When I looked up the particular bands they indicated fevers...and I always run fever, although not technically as it will be 97-99 or 100, although normally I'll run 95 or 96..
my face looks flushed frequently too.
My coinf. tests were - at the lab in NJ. and again a few mo. back..
I'm not sure why the test is neccessary but I hope she can find some effective treatment soon. I was off work 3 mo. and came back doing so well, I sure hate to have to quit now! Anyone, have an idea?

Were you treated for co-infections ?
Maybe, you weren't on the abx long enough ?
A few more details, and we might be able to help.

Hi Melindacf,

There are several things that could cause a relapse in symptoms...

Some sort of added stress,
Insufficient treatment,
Sneaky co-infections,
Or perhaps a new infection.

It is really difficult to detect at times.

Keep in mind that many test negative for co-infections...but improve dramatically with a trial treatment...so I would most definitely speak with your doc about this possibility.

The good news it that you were feeling so much better, so you KNOW it is possible to get there once more, right?

My best,
Melanie

thanks for the replies,
Wonder what she's looking for in the PCR? probably not the coinfect? is it how much lyme or what strain or something so she knows which abx to try? I'm just curious why this test now? I thought the rocephin I was on was the absolute max dose..I took 4 gr. a day for 3 mo. (4 days per week with flagyl 3 days) then I took a lesser dose for 4 weeks following because I wasn't better..
Another doc took me off, but come to find out it was the b-12 issue all along on those neuro issues. Alot, of them anyway. I did take some mepron, zith on my own once for 3 weeks without the dr. RXing them to try it out of frustration..I got so sick to my stomach I had to stop, because I was trying to work at the time. I had bad h/a too, and it was too difficult to work and take it, so I didn't continue. I was also taking the herb artemesin with it. (to make it stronger) I had a plan of taking doxy, mepron and whatever else I could get my hands on to cover all the coinf. JUST IN CASE I had them too..but it seems my stomach could never handle the doxy or the mepron too well. My stomach is even worse now, everything I eat tastes terrible, drink or even gum tastes bad..smells are altered too. the last 2 weeks..this hasn't happened before..any advice is greatly needed.
Melinda
