I went to my meeting with the Board of Health and brought my letter to parents and the brochures from the LDA that I was planning to send home with school kids and guess what???

They decided they wanted to do a town-wide mailing instead of just the school because they thought we were missing too many residents!!!! I almost started to cry in the meeting!!

One of the members is a nurse and she had some other great recommendations! One them for getting some of this info to doctors and nurses who are taking CEU's!

This has turned into quite the project!!
I'm going to re-do my letter and enclose the brochures and a list of resources and Internet links. I'm also going to reference my sources so they know it's coming from legitimate sources.

Hi Linda LD,

I have a rough plan that I just keep adding to and this is the first thing I'm working on. At the same time as this, I also want to put something on the cable station for people to call the board of health for more information.

Right now I'm finishing the letter and putting together the references and source sheet. I was pointed to most of this information from the great people on this site.

I'm more than willing to give it to anybody who is interested so they can use it as well. Others can tailor it for their audience instead of starting from scratch.

Email your home address to me and I will send out my plan (very rough) and the packet when it's complete.

DP, last year when I was very active in our local support group, this is what we did also.

We had our local SUPPORT GROUP NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NO. mailing labels attached to EVERY brochure we handed out. This way the folks had someone local to call vs. the LDA office.

It does take time & expense in doing this. Our local city's volunteer senior citizens helped do the majority of these without pay.

So wanted to share this with you too.

HAPPY DAYS for you; you succeeded! What a plan. So happy for your community.

Hi Bettyg,
Great suggestion, but we don't have a support group...yet.

Two options come to mind, put the BOH number or contact the closet support group number and ask them if I can put their number?

I'm thinking we might enlist the girl scouts, but we have an active senior citizen group that may help as well.

DP,

Yes, use only SELF-MOISTENED LABELS; not paper where you glue it; glue will come off; we tried it! ha

Yes, girl scouts....any organization where kids are involved including 4-H, Future Farmers, etc.

Again...way to go!

DJP,
What part of the country are you in? I want to do this is my area but no one believes Lyme is an issue. My email is posted on here. I would love a copy of your plan if it you have the time to send it..............

I am an educator and haven't been able to work with this illness. I would like to start a project like this .... my energy is improving and I may be able to do this at some point soon if my med change goes well.

Thanks for helping,

robi

PinchotGail,
I had received a call from the BOH when my daughter's test came back positive. It was reported to them.

We live in a small town and the 3 BOH members are volunteers. Two of them are nurses.

It was one of the nurses that called and I was very suspicous at first and asked her some questions before I would answer any of her questions.

Well as she asked questions, I gave answers and told her some of the wrong things I was told and what I had learned and that I was wanted to share it with other somehow.
So she invited me to the next meeting.

The first meeting went well, I shared my story and told them some ideas I had and they supported it right away.

I had just tested positive myself before this last meeting and they were aware of it. This meeting went even better because I think they saw I was serious about it and had put some work into it.

All of my stuff is in rough draft state, but I will put it all up here or email it to everyone when it's in better shape.

Robi,
I am in MA and just beginning to figure out I'm in Klempner and Steere country.....Most of the major medical centers are of the other camp...

Guess I'll need to read up on all that stuff to so I know the players and their writings in order to be able to defend whatever progress I can make.

On a better note, MA is considered and endemic region so at least I have that going for me....People at least believe we have it.

I just started taking amoxicillan and I'm still exhausted most of the time. Between that, taking care of my two little ones (one has Lyme) and helping my husband with the new business we started....it's hard.

I want to get it done before I start the "real" treatment next month. I'm in the process of weaning my one year old. Yes, I know I need to have her tested as well.

It's seems if I can find time when I'm having a good day, I can knock out a good portion at a time.

Hopefully another good day is on it's way as I'd like to get the letter to the town residents out as soon as possible because "peak" tick season is here.

I will post what I have as soon as I can get in better shape than it is in.
