I STILL don't believe it. After being off the computer totally for several
weeks.. and totally out of my office too.. and away for three days at the Lyme
conference.. I returned home to find:

An empty quiet house.. except for..

A visiting hound dog, full of ticks, sitting at my front door. Welcome home. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

A bumble bee walking casually across the seat of my chair... buzzzzzzzzz...

AND..

As I was sitting in the kitchen giving a report about the conference to a friend.. I asked them to ``hold on'' a minute because I heard a crashing noise upstairs.. and no one else was home at the time... so I thought.

I assumed one of the family.. over the weekend... had left the window, the one with no screen, open again... and a bird may have flown in? (It happened last year and a bird flew into my statues and knocked them over.. causing the same sort of ``crashing'' noise.)

Anyhow.. after I got off the phone.. some of the precious family arrived home... and after
chatting a few minutes... I remembered the noise I heard and decided to go see if a bird
had come inside.

I checked my room.. with a quick glance.. and saw nothing. I went to the office.. scooted in past all the stacked up boxes and papers... rounded the corner.. saw nothing and turned to leave. NOT that I would have seen anything anyway with that much junk still unfiled and unsorted that was sitting around.

As I walked back out, I glanced back towards the corner of my desk.. which is against the wall.. and a HUGE snake was sitting there... half way coiled up.... with half it's body
crawling up the wall!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I stopped and stared and was trying to figure out what the heck was going on... and it turned towards me....

And it HISSED at me!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I live in a freaking ZOO!

My families response... as they captured the beast and took him outside to let him go..

``Well, it's ONLY a BLACK snake.''

(As if ONLY being a BLACK snake matters!)

``It won't hurt anyone and it WILL eat the mice.''

(Which I DO complain about.. but which doesn't ease my mind terribly either!)

``That proves that your office is the warmest place in the house. They like warm places.''

(As if THAT is a good excuse for the cold winter we just went through!)

``Well... at least he wasn't in your water bed.''

(And just exactly HOW LONG did YOU plan on living?)

You know.. I am not afraid of snakes. I just don't like them roaming around in my
office.. OR my waterbed... and hissing at me.

Is that too much for a girl to ask?

By the way.. As they carried it .. coiled up around their arm.. down the stairs past me to
the great outdoors.. I asked how big it was.

They said it was ONLY about 2 1/2 feet.. because that was what they thought would make me feel better.

I estimated it was 600 feet long.. but after
calming down.. it was probably ONLY about 4 foot long.

Now.. what about the snake babies? Hmmmmmmmmmm......

I think I am going to move TO a zoo.. where there will be less wild creepy creatures!!! Including members of my family!

WoooHOOOO!! TC is back!!

Bring out the dancin' shoes!

Are you going to stay longer this time?? Please, pretty please?? I have no one to argue with and pick on!!! It's SOOO depressing!

Snakes, huh? I have a collection of snake stories, having grown up in Texas! How about a 5ft water moccassin on your patio?...that you STEPPED right over?

Now that was a good story of mine! [actually, I stepped over him twice....had to in order to get back into the house!]

So what else is new??

TinCup, You rock!
And I had a dream last night about dancing with a boa constrictor....
:-)

And no... all you Freudians, it wasn't one of "those" dreams *grin*. Dancing with snakes is an offshoot of American Bellydance styles. I like the big slow ones, but not the creepy zippy garden ones. And I would have left a goodly puddle on the floor if I saw a 2 to 4 to 600 foot snake in my office!

Be well, dear Tincup,
you're much loved,

Hey Tincup-

Glad you made it back safe and sound. Good to see you back on here.

I can relate to your snake story. I found a "baby" black snake in my house one day while vacuuming. I screamed and my husband came running. Of course, he thought I was overreacting.

I was nice meeting you at the conference.
