Heard on radio a lady in my county went to mexico and came back with dengue fever...she did not survive but her other family members did.

This is transmitted by mosquitos and is horrible!

they urged people to wear long sleeves, long pants tucked into socks and deet repellant and to stay away from biting insects!

this is sad. so many people die of vector borne illnesses and lives are ruined even if they survive they can end up with chronic problems like in lyme.

So sorry to hear about this situation.

You are right. This is tragic.

My heart goes out to her family.

I know in Cancun alot of tourists were having allergic reactions to bug bites. Somebody on our bus tour to XCARAT face was hideously swollen. She said a bug bit her and that benydryl wasn't helping.

don't know what state/province but it started with a G.

My friend's husband is from Cuba. He contracted dengue fever and cannot get it again or it will kill him. like lyme, the more times you are exposed the worse it is.

She wants to go back to south american and Africa and he says he'll see her when she gets back.

I have dreams for when I am bettter to go to central and s. america and asia.

I hope the deet will be enough protection....if a person achieves any kind of remission would they take risks again?
I would most likely except calculated risks.
Dream of skydiving and scuba diving and all the things I never got to do...
So now I read all the national geographics cover to cover and wisk myself away
Gotta dream still right?

The reason I asked about the location is that my inlaws live 2 hours from the Mexican border. I read in this link that 3 cases of dengue have been reported in South Texas since 1980. Yucko!

Do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express!
