I wonder why this problem can't get fixed? It is really frustrating and I think it causes a lot of repeat postings too. But you're looking for something and remember a key word but can't get the search to work.

I see this topic come up periodically for a long time.

Please moderators, webmasters, please fix this? Please?

I've seen a lot of boards incorporate a google search into their own software. Is that possible here?

Thanks.

It worked for me on general but not on medical or site wide. It times out when I try any search on medical even for the last day.

This has been going on a long time.

Try a search on medical and let me know if that works for you.

I have a high speed connection so it isn't that.

Martijn thanks for the LOL

Matijn I'm not usually up at 4 AM and I'm not planning to get up so I can search here.

Even limiting the search to one forum and even a short time like the last five days, searching medical doesn't work for me. It times out and gives me a web page not responding error message. Even if I'm searching for a term I know was used.

There's been a problem with searching this site for a long time now. Most people have said search doesn't work for them. The first time since I registered that I've gotten any sucessful search was limited to general and the last few days only.

Something's wrong with the search. I don't know why it can't be fixed. I don't know this software or much about software but I know a lot of site have a google search that works on their site and google is great.

I wonder if that would work here or if the message board software they use is incompatible with it? Either way this should be fixed I think, it is important to be able to search information you know you saw last week or a few weeks ago. I sure don't categorize and save every post in a link. Don't have the time or energy and that's why they have search functions.

I wish I had bought stock at the IPO.

Thanks for trying to help. PS: Maybe if it works for you and you are up at 4 AM and I need a search, I'll ask you next time?

Set your alarm-clock at about 4:00 AM.
It's best to do a search in the early morning, because it's the most quiet time.

STEP 2

Do a search in only 1 Forum at a time.

Note: with the other parameters you can determine the specificity and sensitivity of your search.

If you don't find any posts, then your search terms have never occured.

If you do find any posts, then it's a false-positive result.

Hope this helps.

I have found that my searches on medical (did several yesterday) do go through, but it takes FOREVA. I haven't timed out. Perhaps you're timing out because it's telling you to sit in the corner?

You've only been here since May! Or were you here with a different screen name before that??

Perhaps you could try donating $$$ so this problem could be fixed. I'm sure it's not cheap to upgrade.

I said in one of my earlier posts that I had been lurking a long time but had only registered to post recently. I have been involved mostly in private groups on yahoo lists before.

It is okay that you missed that or didn't remember it.

So I have seen the topic about problems with the search posted many times. And tried to use the search many times with no luck. Also Jenifer wrote to me and said the problem had been going on a long time and they were trying to fix it.

I made a suggestion about incorporating a Google search engine into the site. I don't know if software needs upgrading or not.

How was the Holiday Inn Express? Did you get a continental breakfast and USA today?

This was a valid posting about a valid problem....sheesh, I'm an old timer who's used the search frequently, for YEARS here, but for a long while now it hasn't worked for me at all. I know many others have the same problem.

Just how much money is needed to make this site work like it used to? Maybe if we knew what was needed and were not ignored when we ask whats wrong, we could get these things fixed. Just a thought

It's 4:00a.m. -- Had to get up to give hubby medicine. Search is not working for me in any forum for any time frame. It really would be useful if this could be fixed somehow.

I use Mozilla Firefox for my internet browser. The search function works for me but it does take a long time.

I wonder if Mozilla waits longer for a time out failure?

4 AM where?

I'd donate to a fund to fix the search.
