I am just starting the process of filing for Social Security Disability. I have decided that I would like to have a lawyer from the very beginning. I was thinking of contacting a
law firm that is frequently advertised in the Wash D.C. area that specializes in disability. Anyone out there have any other suggestions?? I live in Maryland. Feel free to e mail me directly if you want.

Call the law firm advertised and ask him to refer you to three lawyers. Then call those three lawyers and ask the same question.

When you get the same name coming up--check out that person.

Just because they advertise doesn't mean they are good.

Can you call Legal Aid in your area and ask them?

Rene,

I read about you wanting a lawyer from the very start, but have you gone to the BELOW disinissues website & checked out the female MD's "template" she allowed us to use on how to submit your 1st claim complete and accurate using SSDI's specs?

I'd also check with your state's support groups....who have they used & did they WIN?

I had a lawyer from Phoenix for 4 years. NOT impressed at all with his staff nor him.
Make sure they can represent you in CIVIL/FEDERAL court if appeals council denies your claim too! Scott Davis didn't tell me that until he quit me.

If you win, you pay max of $5300 to lawyer plus misc. expenses: travel/lodging/meals/rental car, overnight mailings, copying, costs for medical files, etc.

There are many more links, as well as advice, in the "useful" messages
in the Files area of the website. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Disinissues
and click on Files.

BETTY NOTE: Look at the female MD's DETAILED BACKGROUND right below this paragraph. Print off her detailed responses as to why she could NOT do her job, and then apply that to YOUR own job as to why you no longer can do any type of sustainable work now nor in the foreseeable future!

Betty's note: Here is EVERYTHING about the complete SSDI process; their rules/regulations! BOOKMARK IT PLEASE as you will come back often to read up on the next steps! http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/cfr20/404/404-0000.htm

These links are a compilation of several areas of interest which are
commonly requested and mentioned. They reflect the collected wisdom
of this group. Check them out - you just might find the information
you were looking for! Take a look at Files that are not specific to
your situation, because they might be helpful anyway - what works for
Social Security may work for LTD claims, what applies to CFS may apply
to your medical condition.

The Welcome Message and Group Guidelines are also in Files, if you
