LYME DISEASE SYMPOSIUM AT UNH MAY 12: SUMMER'S COMING AND SO ARE THE TICKS
West Haven, CT- Research scientists from the University of Connecticut and professionals studying Lyme disease will join researchers at the University of New Haven for a day-long conference exploring ``Current Trends in Lyme Research,'' on Friday, May 12, 9 am -4:30 pm in Dodds Theater at UNH.
Sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, the symposium is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
Organized by Eva Sapi, PhD, assistant professor of cellular and molecular biology at UNH, the symposium will feature many of Connecticut's experts in Lyme disease, including:
� Kirby C. Stafford III, PhD, vice director, chief entomologist, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, ``Tick Management and the Prevention of Tick Associated Disease,'' 9:15-10:15 am
� Stephen K. Wikel, PhD, professor, UCONN Health Center, department of immunology, ``Ixodes scapularis: The Genome Project and Tick Host Interaction,'' 10:30-11:45 am;
� Steven Phillips, MD, immediate past president of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society, ``Chronic Lyme Disease: Facts Behind the Controversy,'' noon- 1 pm;
� Peter J. Krause, MD, professor of infection diseases , Connecticut Children's Medical Center, UCONN department of pediatrics, ``Tick-borne coinfections: Lyme Disease, Babesioisis and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis,'' 2-3 pm;
� Michelle Hessberger, MS, research scientist and instructor, UNH, ``Recent Discoveries of Novel Pathogens in Ticks in Southern Connecticut,'' 3:15-4:15 pm.
