I lost 15 pounds in fewer than 4 months. I also had lots of GI issues and ate double or triple what my husband, who is 6'2" ate! I am 5'8" and got down to 121 pounds and looked gaunt. I ate so much to maintain 121 pounds and not lose more that waitresses would even comment on it ... especially when I'd order two full meals!
I started eating gluten-free (no wheat, barley, rye, and oats) and gained 10 pounds back. The digestive issues went away, too.
This all happened before I knew I had Lyme. They originally thought I had celiac because the symptoms can be so similar ... I don't, but gluten does make me sick.
I don't know if it will work for your dad, but it sure worked for me.

Big yes on digestive issues.
Big yes in that I have lost weight & can't seem to put it back on.
Yes. On anxiety issues. My frustration limit is also very short. Also being chronically sick & having so much loss it tends to make the anxiety worse. Big time worse when I am herxing.
Big yes on sleep problems. It takes an elephant dart to get to sleep since lyme struck.
Yes. Do battle with dispar on a regular basis. I have to be careful. And try harder to look at the postives...some days are easier than others.
Treatment has helped on most levels. I hope your dad can find a way to feel better soon
Blessings Dana
ps if you post this in the medical section you will probably get alot more responces. Not as many people make it over to general support

Is he still on abx?? Has he been treated for babesia? Babesia can cause anorexia.
Ditto on the gluten. I can't tolerate it either.

Lyme disease and coinfections all can cause G.I. problems. Hubby's primary symptoms are nausea/vomiting/dry heaves and tremors/myoclonus/seizure-like episodes. These symptoms have been present for the entire 6 years of his illness and fluctuate in severity.
Hubby recently had a paralytic ileus and is now on nausea meds every 6 hours. His pancreatic enzymes were elevated during his hospitalization but have normalized over the last month.
Hubby had 5 abdominal xrays and 2 abdominal CT scans in the last 2 months. Tests sure leave a lot to be desired.
G.I. problems could be due to Lyme, babesia, bartonella or even ehrlichia. Other possibilities include parasites, candida and gluten intolerance or casein (a milk protein) intolerance.
Very difficult to diagnose and treat G.I. symptoms. CDSA (comprehensive digestive stool analysis) from Great Smokies lab (now called Genova lab) would be a good place to start.
You really should read the article "Bell's Palsy of the Gut". Can be found at this website.

Yeah, me too. I have lost 40 lbs since this started. Gluten and casein free diet has helped. Threelac seems to help with the gut issues and I never forget my digestive enzymes.
I use coconut oil in everything - tablespoons full. I also eat almond flour muffins as much as I want - it helps to put on some weight, without the wheat issue. I also feel a lot better since I started taking electrolyte formula.
Take care
