You might have "whirling disease"., caused by Myxobolus cerebralis.

Headline in today's paper:
STATE WORKERS TO ERADICATE PARASITE DEADLY TO TROUT

You know, I'm really glad our state government is so concerned about these trout. I mean come on-let's keep our priorities straight.

"Since discovering the infected fish here last fall, state officials have begun an aggressive program of trying to contain the disease."

"The state should stop the practice of rearing and stocking infected fish,...now we have a problem that's more extensive than it was. It could have been contained."

So you know what they did? " The fish-both rainbow and brown trout- were hauled by a pair of tractor trailers to a rendering plant to be chopped into food for chickens." [Eek!]

This is front page news! Where's Highlight Magazine when we need it. What's wrong with this picture? How come diseased trout make the front page and we don't?

Maybe this is why I'm running around in circles, been hauled off to the chopping block, and feel like chicken sh!t.

Ask not for whom the rooster crows, the rooster crows for thee.

Hi gals..

Good luck Betty..

Carol, now the chickens will be sick and we will eat them and all have something new.

Of course the fish are important. The legislators are probably fishermen..Maybe if you went swimming and could get snagged by one of them casting a fly, you would make the news. lmt

ps or maybe some ticks got too close to the water and they have endangered the fish. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Dear Cobweb,

We must not generate as much interest or monies as sick little fishies.

Definitely don't want to eat chicken following that article.

I wonder how much money they spent on that "important" containment of potential disease.

Who knows......maybe they'll haul us off, chop us in little pieces and feed us to the chickens too.

Hugs,

Geneal

I fear we do generate quite a bit more interest and monies than sick little fishies. I think we are already experiencing being hauled out and chopped up.

We're in the middle of a political tug of war:

Pharmaceutical companies want to deny the disease, keep us sick and medicated, and supress any effective non-rx treatments.

Insurance companies want to prevent diagnosis, and thereby refuse payment for pharmaceutical treatment.

The government wants to supress diagnosis to avoid social service responsibilities and to avoid responsibility for related illnesses such as gulf-war syndrome.

All of those organizations have plenty enough resources to pay off media and spread propaganda. In my opinion, it's not that nobody cares or is paying attention.

I think they're paying quite a bit of attention, and putting in a fair amount of energy into avoiding the inevitable.

We're the lyme pioneers. This will all catch up to them in another fifteen or twenty years, and they won't be able to avoid it any more.

Besides my conspiracy rant, you just sold me on vegetarian-fed chicken.
