[This is a parallel post to one in Medical and Activism. I'd like to see this go country-wide...]

I would like to initiate a "Walk Against Lyme -- For Those Who Can't," beginning on May 1st in Augusta, Maine. This will parallel a walk that will take place in Minnesota on May 5.

A Walk was initiated last year by the Ya-Yas of Rebecca Wells' fan website. Here's how it works: form teams of 4. Walk each day in May (we did it in April last year).

Get pledges and donations supporting your walk -- 10-25 cents per mile you walk is fine, or a flat donation. Report your miles walked each week to your team captain, who will report them to me. The team that comes in LAST has to pay an additional $25 per person to a Lyme cause.

I parlayed this last year into $450 in pledges and donations. If someone wants to give to a non-profit for tax reasons, donations can be designated to go to the LymeAid4Kids Fund of the LDA.

My son and I had fun with this. And I gotta warn you -- our team did not lose!

I would like to walk our first mile to the State House on May 1st, when they declare May Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

Let's go!
Shaz
