I never could figure out why people try hitting the bottom of the bottle when it doesn't work very well [or rarely works!]

I always hold the bottle at the angle they show then stick the handle of an iced tea spoon in it.

you get rewarded by a giant pool of ketchup.

ah, physics.....(and do what works....)

Wow....I come here to learn about lyme and get all sorts of great advice. Thanks for sharing.

On a side note, aren't those of us doing the candida/lyme diet suppose to avoid ketchup? Shouldn't be that way for life though, so thank you for the tip. It's a good one!

Ketchup may have sugar but it is ALSO a VEGETABLE (remember school lunches!) AND has TOMATOES wihch are powerful anti-inflammatories because they contain lycopene AND ketchup sponsors the Lake Wobegone show on NPR!!!!!!!!!!

Can't get better than ketchuP*)!*)!*)!!

When I was really sick I would find myself transifixed by things even SIMPLER than this- like SPOONS or FORKS- would find myself BAFFLED by them- I was very encephalopathic- would STARE at them going, "WHAT IS THAT?"

(Spppp-
ooo-
n! SPOON!! What is it USED for? SPPOOOON.
SPOON!!!!))))

I couldn't drive or cook anymore. I served raw chicken once!!! That was the last meal I cooked!!!!!!!!!!!! The vegetables were burned.

I didn't actually HAVE a Ketchup Experience but when I ran across this page I was so struck by HOW USEFUL it would have been to me if only I could have still read at that point- STILL- someone could have READ IT TO ME*)!*)!)!*)!*

Viva ketchuP*)!*)!!

Sarah,

I have lyme brain, so if I'm confused about ketchup, I'm really glad you can set me straight since I've avoided it all this time.

It wasn't the tomato I thought was the reason I had to avoid it but the vinegar. Also the reason why most salad dressings are out. Did I just dream this up? That's possible too.

My sister used to work at a restaurant and showed me that on a Heinz bottle, if you tap on the 57 like you're giving the bottle a light karate chop, the ketchup comes pouring out. It's amazing how well it works.

Okay, so does anyone know what the 57 varieties is referring to? Without Googling, of course.

Cathy, my LLMD told me to avoid yeast ... so that rules out vinegar.

If I'm remembering whatever food network show I watched right...

The 57 was supposed to represent the number of products Hienz was manufacturing at the time. But... in fact, it was a made up number because it sounded good. The real number was less.

Or

I might have dreamt that.

[Big Grin]

(Funny thing is I can't remember the name of the show.) [Roll Eyes]

edit: maybe "Unwrapped"

Hi Sarah [hi]

Thanks for posting this [Smile] I really enjoyed your link. I sent it out today to some of my friends & they seemed excited to try the method shown.

For those on a no sugar diet Heinz makes a new sugar free ketchup called "one carb" ...tastes pretty good too.

Lymetoo ~ You can make a sugar free/vinager free ketchup with tomatoe paste. I forget the exact recipe but it's tomatoe paste, lemon juice a smig of water & some stevia if ya like it sweeter.

You can google for the exact recipe~there are tons of sugar free recipes for ketchup. All you do is substitue lemon juice for the vinager .

True, but one scoop a month is good for morale ... vinegar just wouldn't have that same effect!!!

I heard the 57 varieties was the number of varieties of pickles that they used to make.

But, here's the true story ... According to Heinz, in 1896, Henry John Heinz noticed an advertisement for '21 styles of shoes.' He decided that his own products were not styles, but varieties. Although there were many more than 57 foods in production at the time, because the numbers '5' and '7' held a special significance for him and his wife, he adopted the slogan '57 Varieties.'

Ok....Sarah was out here giving us a great tip and I'm turning it into lyme. I need to be knock beside the head.

I imagine as Sixgoofykids said, it's the vinegar I'm suppose to be avoiding, BUT with that on the side, I'm still glad Sarah posted this and heck, it wasn't even on the medical boards, so I SURELY need to stop and smell the roses.

Good tip here. Thank you, Sarah.

Cathy

I dont believe that vinegar is BAD for us. I have read someplace that one should take a tablespoon full a day for good health.

I REALLY doubt vinegar causes yeast,,,doesnt sound possible,,,but I have been wrong before,,,ALOT!!!

IF sugar makes yeast,,,vinegar surely is 'opposite' of that!! mostly--just don--

I think it kills the good bacteria, allowing yeast to flourish.

Thanks, dana! I gave up eating ketchup about 10 yrs ago. I can live without it pretty easily!!

I do, however, dispense ketchup almost daily on my hubby's plate! So I'm GOOD at getting the ketchup out!!! [Razz]

Raw Apple Cider vinegar is supposed to have miraculous health benefits. You can google it.

It all has yeast in it ... not candida though.
