Someone suggested updating our post so we could keep a better idea of how often, far, etc we were able to walk in one week.

Sounds like a good idea.

The post in off topic was getting to long and confusing for this lyme brain.

So, we are back over here in General for some general support with this moving the body with lyme stuff.

If you are doing water therapy or any kind of therapy, please jump in.

Hope you will join LymeToo, Lou, Cobweb, Randibear, Andie, Cave and .......add your name here

Sunday AM

 -

Sleep Walking going on but no hiking yet

 -

Sunday afternoon...no walking today, but was able to cruise on down to the lake in my power chair....40 min outing est.

I think I saw wood ducks, Canadian Geese, snow geese, mallards, heron, and those little black ducks with white beaks.

Monday.........

No walking yet this am. But, was able to cruise down to the lake again. Saw a new bird...shore like wetlands like bird with grey stripes and long curved beak.

 -

Coot (Lots of these guys around)

Monday afternoon:

Able to hike/walk up the trail head hill for about 10 min. Sat on a rock and rested. then walked back done. Guessing it took me 5 min to get down.

On the way there, I was able to look around while driving. On the way back.....it was focus straight ahead and be careful. I was exhausted and drained.

But, good to be able to be on the trial again.

Tuesday...nada old earthquake/feel the earth move under my feet get off the tea cup ride symptom back.

Wednesday.....Hurray. Able to get to the lake and back this am via the jazzy.

Wednesday Day and Evening....laid low and had to use power chair indoors at times. Such a bizarre, strange disease this is.

Thursday (I think)....

Yahoo! Able to do a pretty good job of it tonight. Hiked to a new trail head just a little further than I have been. 15 min in and 10 min out.

I take the back roads there at 25 mph in the car which helps too. Also took power chair to and from apartment to car which helps.

Learned the two trail heads I have been on meet each other. It looks like it is a mile from one trail head to the other.

IN my backpacking days, I think I hiked a mile in 20 min but not sure at this point if I trust my memory.

Friday....

tried to find a new trial head but missed it. So, parked the car at the end of a road and walked on the dirt road. Property was for sale. 5 acres $975,000.

Needed my other shoes. No traction on the shoes I had and this road was up and down and slippery due to the small rocks covering it.

I think I did 5 or 10 min in and visa versa. Also was in the car longer this time which took a lot out of me. White knuckled it a few times.

Saturday......

Not sure how long I was on my feet. I think I left the house at 4:10 pm and know I returned at 4:40 pm. 10 min to get there and back..so yep...about 20 min on my feet.

My body tells me that was about right. I was struggling towards the end.

But, it was a good outdoor time.

I was so thankful I noticed that I was parked next to a ditch before I turned the car into it.

it was close enough I could not see that the ground dropped off there.

End of week. Ta Da

1.5 miles today

Tried for two but just didn't quite make it.

Anybody else?

I love this on a week-to-week basis, so I'll know at the end of the week!

It may have been this bird I saw last night.....Wilson's Snipe?

I walked a mile again today.

My slacks are getting a little loose, which is GREAT!

Even more, I'm really enjoying the extra energy this is giving me.

Just before my life went totally south, I was swimming about a half mile or so several times a week, and walking about a mile on the other days.

And I felt exhausted at the end of either of those. Of course, I was getting horribly sick and didn't know it.

It feels so good to be energized by these walks now instead of depleted. And I'm very glad I'm able to do them on top of a full work day.

Andie,

That is so encouraging to hear.

I, too, was out walking and wondering why I was not able to build up strength and stamina before my health went south.

I thought I was getting ready to go backpacking again.

little did I know my journey would involve a different sort of mountain

 -

 -

Mountain Quail

Saw 3 of these as I started my hike this evening. It always amazes me how quickly they can disappear when they frightened.

 -

Saw one of these also.

So sorry hikers! I have relapsed. Bummer.

I pick up my prescription for mino this afternoon. Once the antibiotics kick in, I'll be back on the trail. So, give me a few days, please. But I'll be back before you know it.

OK all you lazy butts! Get out of bed and hit the road! GO! GO! GO!

The first time around treating lyme, I did not incorporate exercise into my "get well" program. So, now that I relapsed and am back on the antibiotics, I think it is really important to build my body back up.

With that in mind . . . I WALKED 2 -- YES 2 -- MILES THIS MORNING! My body hates me right now. The long walk has definitely stirred things up. Tingling up and down arms, my liver is screaming, and I am lightheaded. But I think this is a sign that things are working, and the bugs are being killed off.

Now, I have to get ready for work. So, TuTu, I am 2 miles closer to you!!

lou,

Glad to hear you were able to get out and walk, but hoping it does help and not harm.

This is tricky business and the norms just don't seem to apply...at least with some of us.

I just got back from walking a mile this morning. I am going to break up my walk today -- one mile this morning and one mile this afternoon or evening. Anyone care to join me? What time is good for you?

Glad you are back on the path Lou.

Good idea about breaking it up too.

How long does it take you to do one mile?

Did you see Oprah yesterday?

Dr. oz was on and I kind of caught him saying something about walking, a mile, how long it took you and how it affects our lives.

Need to read transcript to figure out what I was hearing as mind was not processing fast enough to take it in.

Anyway. Thinking of you this am and glad to hear you were able to get out there.

Thinking of Andie too. Need to go back and reread.

Can't recall how she is doing this week.

Good morning Kam! Hope you are well and that you can get out today.

I did not see Oprah, but I will check out the transcript. I like Dr. Oz.

It is currently taking me 20 minuts to walk one mile. I would like to get that down to 15 minutes, but my body is not ready.

My symptoms seem to have been "stirred up" since I went back on antibiotics. It is not scary this time, though, because I have been through it before.

So far, I have been able to keep the symptoms in the back, rather than the forefront, of my mind. The symptoms are still there, but not my main focus.

I learned to do this when I first got ill, and decided after a month in bed that I had to pick myself up and work with, rather than against, the Lyme. I have been very lucky -- because this has worked for me.

I have found meditation and self-hypnosis very beneficial. Oops! Didn't mean to get off on a tangent!

Hugs to you Kam. And hope to hear from Andie and TuTu!

Lou,

Speaking of meditation or prayer...that was the one big thing that studies showed is the most helpful.

When I am out walking, I try to keep my mind on positive stuff.

Sometimes my mind is just able to deal with putting one foot in front of the other.

Other times, I have what it takes to notice what is around me and may have some thougths going on inside the head.

That is when I try to keep it positive and chase out worries, concerns, old hurts, etc.

Don, I think what you're doing is the equivalent of walking about 5 miles!!!! [Smile]

I can walk a mile in about 25 min. I can't go too fast or my sciatic nerve will kick up. It's an ugly thing when it does!!!! [Eek!]

BUT...If I keep doing this, I should be able to walk a bit faster each day until I get it down to "pretty fast."

I guess according to Dr Oz, I'm not gonna die in 5 yrs! [Big Grin] I know I can walk a 1/4 mile in 6 min.

Dr Oz's statement:

OK it is Friday. ONly one more day of this week to go.

I thought I would do a recap of the week.

Don:

 -

The Blue Ribbon for moving the body the most up, down, sideways, forward, backwards, heave ho...and mushing.

Andie:

Walked twice this week. I am assuming it was 1.5 miles each time. Looking good Andie.

Update: 2miles one day and one mile today

Total: 6 miles if my the brain is working right. I think Andie gets the award this week.

Lou:

WAlked 2 miles one day this week. (Had to go back and double check it. Yes you heard it here...two miles.

Walked 1 mile this am with another 1 mile this afternoon pending.

Need to add that Lou did a lot of butt kicking too. This group is slow at getting started. WE need a little butt kicking with rubber souled shoes that is.

TuTu:

WAlked twice this week so far. EAch time a mile I think.

Running out of brain power. I will recap how long it takes Lou, Tutu and Andie to walk a mile later.

KAM:

It appears she did more sight seeing than moving. HA!

Looks like I was on the trail twice this week. Hard to believe that is all. For about 20 min one time and 25 the next round trip.

Update: 20 min today so three times this week for approximately total of one hour.

I walked only a half mile....bummer. My sciatic nerve was kicking up. I don't usually walk on consecutive days.

Could probably have done 1/2 this morning and 1/2 this evening....but alas....

First, great walking everyone!

Second, just for the record:

I actually walked more than I recorded, because I wasn't online.

On Thursday, I walked 2 miles, and then today, I walked a mile.
