Ouch! I'm 31 ...the prime of my life, 3kids, a handsome , wonderful b/f...i don't want to spend my life hurting, and this weather makes it worse, i can't even have a normal sex life without suffering for 3days afterward...can't wrestle and play with my babies like i want to ...i'm in pain all over

i need a pain specialist...or a doctor who will realize that yes i am young and yes i do look fine...but that i really am in pain and not a "drug seeker".... i also would like to print off something i've read so much on ya'lls posts , about pain meds are not addicting if you are in pain to give to my mom

she is so afraid of me being on meds because of all the word out there on addiction...she knows i'm in pain but she also worries about addiction.
I'm taking Tramadol , sometimes up to 300mg a day and ibuprofen 800mg a day. I go back to my LLMD on thursday , and know he will put me on abx's again..

and then i will for sure be hurting...should i ask my LLMD for something stronger or get a pain doc? Wow , its a shame that you feel guilty to ask to not hurt anymore...thats crazy! Thanks Everyone, hope ya'll not hurting today! God Bless

Hi Amy,

I don't know much about pain meds, but I do want to say I'm sorry you are feeling so rotten.

It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair.

But I can say I've been there and done that, and now I'm getting so much better. You will get better too!

When I had no idea what was wrong with me I used to eat Ibuprophen like smarties.

Please make sure you take it with food so you don't make yourself an ulcer, okay?

Craniosacral therapy and lymph drainage massage also helped reduce my pain considerably.

And you are so right, nobody should have to feel guilty about wanting relief from pain!

Up for someone who knows more about Tramadol.

i think you should ask your llmd if he knows a pain dr that understands that lyme pain is not only real

it can be very debilitating. Also if there is a lyme support group in your area I would ask the group leader if they can get a reference for a helpful pain dr.

sorry you are in so much pain. I hope you find a dr who can help. there are different kinds of pain meds besides narcotics (peracet, vicidin etc) there are also muslce relaxers (zanaflex, bacolifin etc) and there are anti seizure drugs that are used for nerve pain (lyrica, neurontin)

and i am sure i am leaving some meds out. physical therapy acupunture chiropractor...

many things could help pain and a pain dr should try to figue out what type you have to give you the kind ofmeds that will help best.

best wishes

Tramadol is NOT addicting. If you get on higher doses dont try to go cold turkey without tho!! My tramadole is 50mg and doc said I could have 8 a day easy!!!

You might ask for neurotin to help out if more is needed. I dont think that is addictive either.

What works for ME is a couple Citrical calcium sups a day and a magnesium and a couple Glucosamine /Clondrition. without those I would e crawling the walls.

When I found those I completely went off the Neurotin and down to 2 Tramadol a day!!! HAVE to just keep looking and trying stuff till you find what works for you!!

But definitely in the mean time,,,get tramadol bumped up to max and get a neurotin rx to go with!! Its a real safe combo!! Pain is silly to endure like THAT!!!

Amy,

It's good that you have an appointment with a pain specialist. Be aware, that it sometimes takes time to find the right pain specialist. I personally don't think a pain specialist has to agree with your Lyme treatment, he/she just has to be willing to treat your pain.

The ideal type of pain treatment will use methods to control your pain on a regular basis, and then use something like a narcotic or tramadol for break through pain.

This is because your body will build up a dependency to drugs like tramadol. A dependency is not addiction. It is your body getting used to the medication and therefore needing a higher dose for the same pain control. That is why you have had to increase the tramadol. It's just how the body works with these medications.

When I had success with flexeril, I was taking 30 mg every night. I did not see any benefit until I got to 20 mg. And I had to take it every night. I know people who tried 10 mg for a few days and gave up. It took me a month to build up to the 30mg a night, but it was worth it.

Now I take tizanadine (zanaflex) and it's wonderful. It doesn't cause as much fatigue as flexeril, and I sleep really well on it. I have muscle pain, I'm not sure what kind of pain you have.

I also take vicodin when I need to. But I'm down from 3 a day to maybe 3 a week since starting the tizanidine.

I recommend you get the book "The Truth About Chronic Pain" for your mother. It's a fabulous book that really made me understand pain treatment. It's also good for you to read.

Also, check out these resources
http://www.painfoundation.org/page.asp?file=Publications/Index.htm

Good luck. It sounds like you have a wonderful man in your life who is understanding of your pain. Don't let it bottle up inside of you, the pain will only get worse.

Amy, hello I seen you are from KY and so am I. I'm sorry but I laughed when I seen you title, because I used to say that or I've been hit by a semi.

Sorry you are dealing with this pain. It's especially hard when you have little one's to take care of. Mine are grand children, so I can't even image if I had to focus on children on my worst days.

I also do tramadol. This morning is a painful day for me. I'm blessed that it is no longer a daily occurence with me. I started with 2 50mg this morning and within a hour I knew today was a three at one time day.

The weather is rainy here today and on those days I should know to start early with 3 at a time. Sometimes on these days I also add in ibuprohen in a couple hours later to help with inflammation.

But the best pain relief for a few hours for me is my detox baths in the morning. I soak in hot water 20 minutes with 2 cups of epsom salt. Wrap myself up and continue to let myself sweat it out as long as possible. Most times I try to get some chores done around the house then, one because I'm pain free then and two it helps me to continue sweating (detoxing).

I seen a post by someone else from KY last week and she had finally found a great pain mgmt. office in Louisville and she was feeling much better after years of failed treatments for her pain. Let me know if you want her info she posted.

Amy, I know what you mean about feeling guilty asking for pain relief.

Last week in the hospital I was in agony and I couldn't get my nurse to bring me anything.

Finally she said she'd bring me Tylenol.

I just about growled at her when I asked her if I couldn't have something a bit STRONGER.

They make you feel like a crazy drug-seeker and then when you read your medical records, you realize that they actually think you ARE a crazy drug-seeker! [cussing]

I have three kids, too, and a supportive but stressed-out husband. What would I do without them? I love them so much.

Take care and feel better! - Julie
