Check this out! It's about those supposedly "clean" glasses in your high dollar hotels.

I saw that and had to walk out of the room.

Last time my daughter and I stayed at a hotel, I brought clorox wipes and wiped down anything we would touch...anything not fabric got wiped down, including the remote control.

Let's not even talk about the bedspread, don't ever use it.

How did we survive growing up without anti-bacterial soap and seat belts?!

Don...Don't ever drink out of the GLASS glasses in the hotel room. They don't wash them properly if at all.

I heard/read about this some time ago, and since we go to Disneyland every October, I began the practice of either packing (if we drove down) or buying at a grocery store once we got in the area, Dixie cups. Both sizes, drink size, and little tiny size for bathroom use (after brushing teeth, etc.). Taught both my boys good about using ANYTHING in a hotel room. It took some time to break them of the habit of sticking their mouths right up to the bathroom faucet to rinse/spit after brushing teeth, but I did it---it can be done!!!

We also never put our suitcases on the floor (with the lovely bedbug factor out there) and NEVER put them on top of the bedspread, this is the first thing I do when I enter the room---fling back the bedspread (well, I fold it nicely) so we sit directly on the top sheet of the linen.

Just a few things, I also wipe down and clean the bathroom with wipes. Not my idea of fun on vacation, and especially in 400/night hotel rooms, but it must be done! Just thankful I don't have to clean WHEN WE LEAVE. Now that would be a bummer. [Cool]

GAAAHHHHHHH !!!!

I just watched the video. I must say that the amount of anger I felt when watching it felt very justified. The implicit trust that we place in these places we stay has been breached. I will not, cannot comment on what factor I think is truly the MOST #1 issue at stake in why and how this practice is done. But, with a bit of brain power, I think most people will figure it out.

In the video, when they are interviewing the health code person, it is stated that health code is not met. Well duh. In a country where illness can be traced to a how and a why, it is almost a common sense idea. Yet, not every person in this country has this knowledge. And we wonder why.

I feel like I'm burying myself with my comments, but I am very angry. I have not been buying plastic Dixie cups for that many years, I can remember going on our annual Southern CA trip with my kids, and using those #$%^& glasses. Putting our toothbrushes in them. And yes, I can recall some years back, seeing a glass with one of those little paper lids on it that had LIPSTICK residue. I remember thinking, "what???" and simply putting the glass somewhere else in the room so no one would use it, thinking it was a mistake. Some mistake.

Intentional, or not? Ignorance? Passive aggressive behavior, almost like a restaurant worker spitting in food that's been returned to the kitchen, and sending it back out to the customer "all fixed"????

I have my ideas of what and why this goes on. I think the ONLY way around this issue is to bring your own cups. [cussing] [Mad] [toilet]

Julie...I can remember in years past that I felt uncomfortable about those glasses. Drank from them anyway....but now I know my "uncomfortable feeling" was justified!!

[It wasn't that I saw anything wrong with them... just kinda had a bad feeling... hard to explain!]

In one part of the video (I did watch 2 others that were on the right hand side of the screen when you had the original video in front of you) one of the newscasters (I think) said "why should we have to bring our own cups to a hotel room? Isn't this part of what we're paying for?" And I have to agree with that. In another part of this other video I watched (same news cast, maybe Part 1 of this investigative series) they showed a motel chain (Holiday Inn?) that used individually plastic wrapped plastic cups.

And I can remember well seeing those same cups in one of the motels I used to sleep at in my visits to my mom in southern CA. It's a shame that ALL the hotels don't go this way. Then again, I think of the incredible WASTE that this would incur.

You guys are welcome for the tips! Just a few, but I have had plenty of years to think about it (25 years of going down to L.A. for family and Disneyland visits).

Those plastic cups are used by a lot of hotels/motels. I always liked that!!! Maybe not so good for the environment, but much better for the health of the nation!

I guess you could always wash the cups out with the little bar of soap you get in the bathroom?

I am more concerned with the bed bugs I read about!!!! [Razz] [shake]

Sometimes I feel good about NOT having a vacation in 25 years!! [lol]

You guys are just too funny!!

Isnt there a national law that says they HAVE to use a high heat mangle(think thats the right word) to kill any potential germs in bed sheets???

Think they would take same precautions with bedspreads,,or NOT. Usually pretty good sanitation in Most places.

Back in the 70's we were coming back from Shreveport from a funeral of an uncle.

We sorta got stuck someplace in a 'dry' county around the Ozark area,,,in a motel with "Hourly" rates. Roaches bigger than horses.

Plum full of room renters when we checked in late that night,,,next morning ALL cars were gone!!!

THAT was a DUMP!!!(To say the least) Most plumbing didnt work either!! AND it stunk!!

This has made me think to all of those cleaning/linen carts in the hallways at hotels. I can't recall ever seeing them loaded with glassware. Guess I know why now. Why tote glasses around when you can just rinse them in the hotel room.

They did one of those undercover-camera documentaries here in England about that. The cleaners are worked to death and have just a few minutes for each room (or they might lose their job), so they wiped out the glasses with the same cloth they'd cleaned the toilet seat with.

They also didn't change the bedding if they could get away with it - just straightened it out if it was not wrinkled.

I never have understood why so many people allow their dogs to do that. Totally grosses me out and to think what the dog is exposed to!!

[Yes, I know their digestive systems are different from ours....but a germ is a germ...YUCK!]
