Hello all, I have been ill for over 10 years, and I am finally starting to feel better after 2.5 years of treatment. Now that I have regained some strength, I want to start giving back and helping the Lyme community.
I am starting a stationary and custom invitation business with 2 other women and they have graciously allowed me to set up a non-profit organization that will sell a line of our work with the entire proceeds going to the Lyme cause.
Here is the problem.... I don't know where the money would be best used! I have thought of turn the corner, research centers such as columbia or individual researchers, ILADS, Texas Lyme organizations, etc.
I am just wanting some feedback! Any ideas and suggestions welcomed, I just want to see the money go to a place that would further the cause for better scientific research and patient care.

You'll need to see an atty. and get the rules for setting up a board of directors.
you'll also need to determine if it will be non-profit or not-for-profit. Slight distinctions and rules may vary by state.
It may be easier to set up a grant program with an existing agency than to file for and pay expenses as a 501 (c) (3) agency.
In some cities, the United Way can direct you to the top specialists. Librarians are great resources, too. Your own state's government will have the guidelines for state rules and registration.
Good luck - it's great to set up some sharing experiences.
I wanted to restate what I am asking for.... I am curious where you think I should donate the money, where it would best be used to further the lyme cause.
I have the setting up part under control, I just want to make sure I put the money where it will be used best.
The Lyme Disease Network is a non-profit organization funded by individual donations. If you would like to support the Network and the LymeNet system of Web services, please send your donations to:
