Hi LymeNet Users, Friends & Family,

Today I am kicking off the 2008 LymeNet FundDrive which will run for four (4) weeks, ending on May 31, 2008. The link to our appeal for funds is here: http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=019745

LymeNet can only continue its mission with your financial help. The on-going cost to keep LymeNet up and running on the Internet is $325/month, totaling $3900/year. I am setting the 2008 FundDrive goal at $5000, which will give us a reserve just-in-case we encounter the unexpected.

In the past we held our annual FundDrive during the months of October to December. Based on input from some of our users indicating this was too close to the year-end holidays when they were trying to save for gift giving, celebrations, etc. we decided to permanently move the annual FundDrive to the month of May, Lyme Disease Awareness Month. We also have an another, more pressing reason to hold our annual FundDrive now. The fall 2007 FundDrive fell short of expectations yielding only $1200. Currently we have an account balance of $865, enough funds to keep LymeNet up and running into July 2008. We cannot wait. The FundDrive begins today.

Your donations will be used to keep LymeNet up and running for another year and we will improve the services that LymeNet provides with a new and more powerful server farm, a faster and broader Internet link and upgraded software and security. We will also make the LymeNet Flash a better, safer place for you to share information and help others.

We will post our goals and progress on the LymeNet Flash in this Topic.
Thank you for your generosity and continued support of LymeNet.
Donations can be made via PayPal by clicking on the ``MAKE A DONATION'' button, on the upper left.
Checks made payable to The Lyme Disease Network, can be mailed to:
The Lyme Disease Network

LymeNet 2008 FundDrive Goal = $5,000
====================================

>>>>> Thanks to our early donors, we are off to a fast start.
As of 05/10/2008; 5 donors = $490, which is 10% of our goal.
To those of you who have donated; Thank you!
If you are planning to donate, please do it now!

hi lou,

thanks for posting the $$$ nitty gritty for us so we know what the monthly costs are of running this board and what additional $$$ will be used for in upgrading your equipment to better meet our needs.

i'll get busy in near future to send my 08 donation as i did my 07 donation.

NEWBIES, this is the perfect time to help keep this NECESSARY BOARD up and running for each of us who comes here for:

education on factual info; support when you need to rant/rave and need a shoulder to cry on, and get lyme literate md info and stay up with CURRENT ACTIVISM on behalf of all lyme patients!!

your tax refunds are coming from Pres. Bush, so please take some of that money from "heaven" to use on our "heavenly lymenet board"! lol [Wink]

God bless everyone for whatever donation THEY CAN AFFORD! [group hug] [kiss]

many have lost everything so it's up to us to make up for those who have really fallen on TOUGH TIMES. Betty [Big Grin]

perhaps others are having same problem i did today, and we ALL want everyone to be able to read this that DONATIONS ARE NEEDED NOW.

$5,000 IS GOAL since monthly bill is $325 !
********************************************

thanks lou! i'm going to print off the receipt now and complete to get mailed. [group hug] [kiss]

,,,,

to all reading this, a friendly reminder that MAY 31, is the DEADLINE for this year's fund-raiser for expenses to keep lymenet going!!

$5,000 is the goal; around $550 has been received to date; LONG WAYS FROM $ 5,000 ~!!!
*****************************************

to all newbies, please contribute what you can even $5 - $10 adds up when MANY do this!!

that's extremely cheap for being educated about lyme disease, have FACTUAL/SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE backing up things; being able to get LLMD lyme literate md names to go to, and SUPPORT .... unlimited to cry on, rant, and just talk about how sick you are to others WALKING IN YOUR SHOES!!

i know i'd never be the same if LYMENET WERE DROPPED due to people NOT donating towards their $325 intenet monthly service bill, etc.

this is my HOME to visit with friends and help SO MANY who don't know where to turn to!! [group hug] [kiss]

Hi LymeNet Users,

Initially I stated the 2008 LymeNet FundDrive would run until 5/31 but was had some straggler donations coming in so I left it open until now. Today I am closing the FundDrive and announcing the totals.

The total raised, driven by a single $5000 donation from one of our very own LymeNet users, is $7860. Thank you to all who donated ... without you we could not continue to operate.

The on-going cost to keep LymeNet up and running on the Internet is $325/month, totaling $3900/year. Since the FundDrive yielded 2 years of operating capital we will not need to conduct another FundDrive until May 2010.

In addition, thanks to the influence of one of our Founding Members, Tom Brown, we were able to acquire a $7000 dual-CPU HP Proliant enterprise class server farm which will be running VMware and RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.x with Apache HTTPD 2.6.x. This is protected by an enterprise class Cisco firewall, intrusion detection and network switching gear ... and all of this comes at NO COST to LymeNet.

Tom is in the process of migrating LymeNet and the LymeNet Flash to the new server environment.

Again, to all those who generously donated ... THANK YOU!!!

Take care,

--------------------
