Has anyone tested negative for co-infections, and found out later that they did in fact have them.
I'm wondering because I know how inaccurate the lyme tests are. I'm wondering if the co infection tests are just as unreliable.
After 25 years of misdiagnosis, I was clinically diagnosed. My Dr. said that after 25 years and antibiotics, the Lyme tests would be negative. (right) the coinfection tests were negative too, but I wonder about that.

Co-infection testing isn't that reliable.
So, yes it is possible to have bartonella or babesia
And test negative for them.
My LLMD has treated me for bartonella and babesia based on symptoms.
I had an Igenex Fish done and it was negative.
However, it only looks for 2 of the 13+ known strains of babesia.
You should see my babesia herxes (maybe not).

Yes, the first time around, my LLMD tested me for Lyme and co-infections. My co's were negative but my lyme was positive.
As we treated the lyme, my doctor wanted to treat Bartonella and Babesia on a clinical diagnosis.
I was doing well on going after these three, but then as I started to fall, I was retested again and this time, I DID test positive to bart, babs and erlicious. This was over a year after treatment.
So yes, I would say that many of us are going to slip through the original testing. That's why it's so important to have a specialist that knows what symptoms to be looking for.

MY LLMD treats with 4 month rocephin, followed by 6 months to a year of oral doxy.
What do they use to treat the co infections? With so many Lyme symptoms, how would you even sort the coinfection symptoms from the Lyme?

Mepron or malarone either with zith or biaxin (and sometimes bactrim ds)
Are the usual combinations for babesia.
Rifampin is what my LLMD uses for bartonella.
When you finish your Lyme treatment (what about a cyst buster like flagyl?)
If you relapse quickly (like in a couple of weeks),
It is usually a co-infection.
There are lots of over lapping with symptoms.
Some specific to babesia like air hunger, night sweats, etc.
Some specific to bartonella (especially sore soles of feet in am).

Hmm, hard to tell if the hot flashes are from Lyme and Co. or from being in my 50s. LOL
When you say sore soles of feet, do you mean the skin, or the muscles and joints but the pain is on the bottom of feet from that?

It is not a joint pain thing.
It feels like you've walked on rocks barefoot the whole day before.
When you step on your feet, they feel bruised on the bottom.
Does that make sense?

Yes, my results had been like that in my recent testing --- all negative
But my LLMD feels that my symptoms (chills, night sweats, insomnia, etc) point to co's anyway
And also said that with many years gone by (14) that the tests may have only come back faint positive if at all
The bottoms of my feet hurt too! Feels like having rocks in my shoes all day, even if walking on carpet!
