i have been trying for 2 months to get into my gastro. well they won't return my calls, so i'm changing doctors.
this office told me that they charge 1.00 per page if i want a copy of my records.
i've been going to him for over 20 years and i've seen my file -- it's at least 4 inches thick.
it would cost me a fortune to have them copy my records.
how much do your doctors charge for a copy of your records?
is 1.00 per page reasonable?

Gosh, that's a lot of money!
All my doctors have given me copies for free, but they've all been a page or two at most.
The exception is my allergist who charged $9 for about 5 pages.

My rheumy told me the same thing. 1.00 per page, so I paid them with pennies. As much as it cost me to go to her, it is ridiculous to have to pay for what is legally yours.
I didn't have that many pages though.
No other doctor ever ask me to pay for copies of my records.

When I switched PCP's and asked for copies of my records so I could take them to my new doctor, the doctor I was firing charged me $1.25 per page. I ended up having to pay $140.00 for MY records!!

i've paid for my records; $15/yr. but got many FREE over the years since it was involved in my 2 SSDI, disability claims.
yes, i've heard $1/page also from jemsek's patients when he changed states.
also, check but from what i've been told, if your NEW DR. requests your files, NO CHARGE!
perhaps copy them after that.
once a carried my file to NEW dr., and copied them after i left old drs. office....food for thought.

The only time I got copies, I paid the, $1 a copy at a cost of ~$30 later to find out two of the pages I paid for were another patients lab tests!
Don't care so much about the $2 just the fact that I accidently got someone's record too didn't make me happy.
Do they normally let you review your records and choose which pages you want copies of? If you do a lot of record forwarding you could end up with copies of things you already have.

i have a personal friend who works in records, BUT she can not assist me or family/friends whatsoever.
yes, they have permitted me to read some things there in their area in order to make sure no one steals anything, etc.
NOT all places will be as kind as this wonderful group of sensitive, caring women.
