Can someone recommend an air filter system to remove dust and smells from your house?

try an ozone generator. Dont know brands etc.try googling ozone generators and see what comes up.

Then I would go to reviews online. There are a lot of good ones, it is the noise that you have to worry about.

Go to homedepot.com and search air purifiers for customer reviews.

I have 2 and while both are good, one is entirely too noisey.

Wal-mart.com has customer reviews too...that is the best way to decide in my opinion.
