I went to a park in the Hamptons this weekend with my wife and it was loaded with Lonestar ticks.

Wow... all the way from Texas! Just kidding... I always think of them as being from Texas. Not sure where they started out.

We have mostly Lonestar ticks in TX. Seriously.

YEEEEE HAAAAAA! Just slap a saddle on 'em and ride off into the sunset! (Can you actually ride west from The Hamptons without hitting water? [dizzy] ) Seriously - Can't recall right off hand, but mature LST's are pretty large, aren't they?

The ones I saw were probably near an 1/8th of an inch. The white dot was prominent.

At least there's a lot of state to go around. Makes them spread thinner than in NY! [Big Grin]

But no. We don't need them back!

Very aggressive ticks, from what I read.

They don't wait around for a host to brush past them but go after people, pets, etc., by scent of CO2.

I have heard they will go through screened windows.

Has anyone heard the same???

I am hoping this was false information!!! [Eek!]

I have also heard that they are extremely aggressive.

Went to UOS screening in May and the LDA president spoke of a man who studies ticks. Had a jar full of Lonestar ticks and when he removed the lid they immediately crawled out onto his hand.

Eeeeewwwwwww....

SSSooooo, what your telling me is that ticks don't stick to the states they are "supposed" to originate from????

I am from NC and my bite was from a Lonestar Tick. Supposedly, because I have ehrlichiosis, which comes from that tick.

Are you trying to tell me that the ticks from down south managed to get up North?? How crazy is that because "supposedly" I can't have lyme because I am from the south. So, maybe it is possible for a northern tick to get down south to bite southerners......could someone clue the ISDA and the CDC in about this information.

Yes, sorry I am being sarcastic, but all this mumbo jumbo they give us about not knowing what is wrong with us!!

FOr what it's worth, lone star ticks, in addition to deer ticks are known to inhabit NJ. So it IS possible that they could just hop onto a train up to the Hamptons, take the kids to the beach, and grab a quick bite to eat...

As to everything being bigger in Texas...New Yorkers (and us folks from Jersey!) have a reputation for plenty of attitude, and cojones bigger and brassier than most any others.

So perhaps those Lone star ticks feel right at home around here.

LOL! Snort, snort... Well I almost don't know what to say...LOL!

It might be interesting to see if the wealthy folks in The Hamptons start spending all their money on Lyme tx and hopefully running their mouths to their Congressperson, Senators, Governors, etc. to get policies changed.

After all, they are them . LOL!

P.S. - What's that name of that new TV show about the out of work doc working in The Hampton's?
