Can someone tell me the meaning of the word herxing or herx? thanks, i'm a newbie.....

Hi Danielle:
Herxing is the body's reaction to the lyme bacteria (and or coinfections of lyme) being killed off by antibiotics or by other methods. The reaction is different for all but it hurts, burns, and you experience your lyme symptoms in a heavy dose. This means that the therapy is working! We all have to go through this to get better. Best to you! THe herxing could be bad in the beginning and will get better month by month. Best health to you!

Hmmm, very interesting. I finished up my script of doxy about 2 1/2 weeks ago and int he past few days have felt worse than I ever had. The joint pain and muscle pain is almost unbearable and terrible numbness nad tingling in extremities worse than ever... Wonder if I am "herxing"....
