Hi <<<<< Lymers >>>>>,
Had to take our Sihayah doggy-woofli to the vet...she has been itching, pealing, scratching, chewing on herself and losing fur.
They drew some blood work...I know it can take a bit to get it back...but I am concerned.
Her CBC was good, but there is concern about allergy/parasite bacterium issues...I'll be glad when the tests get back...
We've watched her closely because of deer in the area...haven't seen evidence of ticks or fleas...
Vet,feels it is allergies, but they are severe...he was as concerned as we are...he mentioned he was very worried that what ever the problem is it is un-curable.
Poor sweety is losing loads of fur,and so miserable... she is being medicated... it seems to be helping a little...
We waited as long as we have to get her to a vet, because of monetary constraints...we were given a blessing, to help her!!!

About two years ago one of my long-coat chihuahuas was obsessed with chewing her back just above her tail.
Our vet said it was a "hot spot" and gave her a shot of something. I put her on a raw diet and she hasn't had a problem since.
I think that cutting all grains out of her diet (allergy?) is what helped the most.

'Mites' can cause such things. They are sometimes so small cant be seen with common eye. Many different varieties are possible.
I THINK spider mites are predominant here,,,and come via large evergreen trees in peoples front yards. They can actually overwhelm smaller trees and kill them.
Dont know how a vet dx them,,or what they use to get rid of them. Just remember sites saying the vet HAS to treat for them
They are NOT like fleas or ticks where you can apply frontline or other similar products yourself.
They dont leave welts or marks where they bite,,,just 100% irritation for people and pets, hence fur loss.

<<<<< joalo, Lymetoo, merrygirl and just don >>>>>,
Thanks for input ,info' and good wishes for our sweet Sihayah girl-woofly-dog!!!
We will be treating w/ a special shampoo for Mites, parasites and etc.,The groomer will help us w/it...as my wrist is still a mess.
Trek is scooting along from time to time now w/his walker...so we'll have fun,the next time we must bathe her.
I have a sneaky suspicion, that she has a problem w/ corn and grains...they have her on a special, anti-inflammatory/high omega fatty acids dog food now.
It is essentially a food challenge,so we'll see what happens, and what will happen when her blood tests come back!
The *Vet is very very concerned, and wants a call frequently to update on how she is responding to meds.
*He does not like steroids, but said it was severe enough to try them, and taper off as quickly as is possible. I think the low does of Benedryl is helping as much or more.
I don't think they did a skin scraping,we go back in a couple of weeks tho' so they still may.
I don't want to lose my sweety dog!!!
Thanks again for the replies and all input!!!

Evo is a no grain dog food. I have to feed my dogs that due to allergies.
My German Shepherd gives the icky face when I try the B.A.R.F. diet (raw diet).
Even the frozen ground raw food he refuses.

<<<<< dmc, aklnwlf, kids'g'l'>>>>>,
Thanks for the good wishes, and the info, will check up on the -Evo- after her allergy trials are over!
Sihayah, looks really sweet w/ her groomed trim...but the poor sweety is still miserable,if she must go out.
It is snowing, but that isn't calming things down for her either...probably the chilly weather...
Oy,the waiting on her test results is unnerving...
Will update as we find out more!

SW...I also feed evo.
A friend went to AVo when her dog had allergies problems and it cleared things up.
So evo or avo might help. you can usually get sample packets at the feedstores.
sure hope it is a simple fix like changing her diet.

Soap is also a problem. Rosie came back from one groomers itching like crazy.
It took me awhile to think perhaps it was the soap.
So, I washed her again with the dog shampoo I have at home and she was fine.

My dog also has allergies. She used to have itchy skin flare ups. After a couple days simple itchy hot spots turned into nasty fungal/bacterial skin infections.
I give her Benadryl (vet's advice) and feed her a special fish and sweet potato food. Now she rarely has a problem. I just have to watch her closely when I take her outside. She likes to roll in and eat questionable things...

<<<<< Kam and Lymetoo >>>>>,
Our Sihayah doggy [ half rust red Chow and half Husky,w/ a bit of something else -wild- think half my name ] is on 'z/d Hills Science Diet prescription dog food.
It is a 12 week challenge, expensive, but worth it to save her life... we have family visiting, and they helped w/ a 'blessing'.
I'll be interested to find out about evo, when this food challenge is over!
They are using a prescription shampoo, the groomers are helping w/ this... as a gift to us!!!
Vet says it will prolly be Tue.or Wed. before all the test results are in...so the wait continues.
Thanks for the replies...we are still rather concerned...Sweety girl Sihayah has had a good trim,
...but she pulled part of what was left off her bit of tail fur, this morning.
She is on an allergy med right now,and steroids [which we, and the vet don't like the idea of...but it's neccesary right now].
Will check back later...

Well..it sounds like you have it covered.
I did have a friend take her dog who had a itching and loosing hair problem to a Homopath vet when she was not getting help from a regular vet.
Can't recall now how they helped...just know it went away.

Sammy, vet said to give sweety girl the Benadryl for now too! Evidently her challenge test food has salmon in it...[Missed your reply last time].
Kam,we are wondering about finding a Homopath/Naturopath for pets if this doesn't stop the problems.
We'll have to work on the finances,as it's tight of course w/o a job. But we don't want to lose our Sihayah doggy!!!
Thanks for the good tho't,prayers and info for our sweet doggy...we appreciate each replier!!!

Update :
Sihayahs blood work reports came back, it seems if a person or pet can be allergic to something she is allergic to it.
Vet said at least a weak positive to most things [trees, grasses, grains, plants, stuff in general ] , including the basic mites that are in -all- homes.
For now,she is on anti-allergy meds, and being shampooed twice a week w/ an anti-parasitic/anti-mite/anti-topical bacterium medicated shampoo.
She is slowly being tapered off of the *steroid meds,as we watch and pray *it helped w/o causing damage to her system [not a fan of steroids here].
<<<<< Lyme Family >>>>> thanks for kind tho'ts and prayers and the input of your replies!!!
