http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capone

If you look at pics of him, it is curious he has red cheeks/ears/overweight and face acne or ?

Being from NY it is possible it was a mistaken diagnosis for lack of a better understanding of spirochetes.
--------------------------------------------------
He had lost weight, and his physical and mental health had deteriorated under the effects of

neurosyphilis. He often raved on about Communists, foreigners, and George Moran, who he

was convinced was still plotting to kill him from his Ohio prison cell.

On January 21, 1947, Capone had an apoplectic stroke. He regained consciousness and started to

improve but contracted pneumonia on January 24. He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest the next day.
--------------------------------------------------
It would be awesome to find some direct descendants to find out exactly what all he had.

Bad lifestyle choices, all the way around. Not everything is lyme but, even if he had been sick with some unrecognized illness, right now - today - we have lots of nice people who deserve better medical attention and access to care.

Let's hope they get the care they need.

Hey, who knows?

It's hard to not think of lyme when you hear some of these stories. Especially since most of us here have read a gazillion other stories about how after years of odd and undiagnosed symptoms, lyme is finally discovered to be the cause.

I was reading a Rolling Stone interview with John Mayer a couple of days ago and he was saying that he grew up in Connecticut.

In his teen years, he and his friend started suffering from panic/anxiety out of the blue.

Can't remember what else he was saying that made me think lyme, but I did!

I have no doubt that there are many people out there who have lyme and are unaware.

Yes, you've got to be careful though or you start seeing lyme disease in everyone. I know that I do that anyway... [bonk]

Sick since January 1985. Misdiagnosed for 20 years. Tested CDC positive October 2005. Treating since April 2006.

It says he had syphilis. That is a similar bacteria to Lyme, so that was most likely the cause of his health issues.

It just gives me the willies when murderers are brought up regarding the possibility of lyme. We have enough trouble being accepted for having straight minds as it is - it can do us no good trying to show just how bizarre a brain infection can become.

I'm sure there were also many very good and lovely people who had severe illness that went unrecognized and untreated. Let's leave those who also were abusive murderers where they belong: buried.

Right now, we need help for the living. We don't need people/doctors to think we're all going to turn into murderers. It's an unjust parallel but one some doctors would not mind considering as they lump us all in a crazy bin and throw away the collective key.
