My sister in Connecticut recently attended a "Lyme Symposium" at the hospital where she works.

A study that the "expert panel" quoted was one in which a group of children and young adults in the 70s all came down with Rheumatoid Arth.
Nothing was suspected at the time, but they were all treated for RA.

Several years ago,and because these patients were all associated in some way with this research hospital, a researcher got the notion to test their blood samples (which were all saved) for Lyme.

Lo and behold, they all had evidence of Lyme antigens in their blood.

When each of these people with RA were checked recently, none had any evidence of Lyme disease, and none had regressed to a point worse than when originally diagnosed.

Anyone heard of this? My sis is going to ask for the details in this study. But I have to say that I think she was sufficiently brainwashed at this symposium.

How was it determined that "none had any evidence of Lyme disease"?

The IDSA seems to think lyme symptoms are just the aches and pains of daily living. So, I have to wonder what criteria was used to evaluate symptoms.

I'd love to see the questionnaire or survey used.

Would your sister please contact the person who quoted that study and get the exact source ? Pretty, pretty please. It's really important to see the original source and who ever discussed it should have that at their fingertips. If they cannot supply the source, I would question the validity.

I also wonder how they were treated for RA? That is a key detail here and I'd want the citation to that as well which should be footnoted in the follow-up study but sometimes they omit such details.

In the meantime, might something about that lyme session be on the web with that hospital's educational announcements or news? The speakers may be listed and their articles could be searched to see if something easily comes to the top.

Might this panel be the same as for the hospital symposium?

Lyme Disease Symposium raises concerns --By Nancy Robinson (New Canaan News)

Connecticut remains ground zero for Lyme disease, and it is a rare household that has not been touched by some aspect of this multi-faceted illness.

A distinguished panel of speakers, sponsored by the Democratic Town Committee, addressed an audience Tuesday night at Town Hall . . . .
