I wonder if anyone else is in my situation.?

I sure wish I could have a roommate but when your ill or doing enemas and rifing and supplments and weird sleep patterns and such..

A normal person may just go wacko living with a lyme disease patient.

What do you think?

Or would living with another of the same be not so good either?

I am not sure what I will do. I have to make some choices in the next couple months.

Got the banks to reduce my mortgage but its only temp because my second loan is going to kick in ..

If I knew I could find an understanding roommate I would rent out the two other bedrooms in my home.?

Anyone looking to move or a needing a place to stay?

Hey who knows right?

Thanks
Spring!

Hey spring,

When I found myself in financial trouble, I rented out my bedroom. (I had a one bedroom apt) I turned the dining area into a small bedroom and put up some Japanese screens.

It paid half my rent and it bought me some time. If you have more than one bathroom, that would really be a big plus for privacy etc.

The other condsideration is to make sure you get people that are reliable and can pay the rent. I did it for about a yr. I know several people who have rented out rooms in their homes for yrs to save their homes and it worked out well.

Good Luck,

Gael

I know it would be a big task and stressful but how about downsizing??

Selling the home you have a purchasing a smaller one.

In the meantime, you could try the room mate situation but I did that when I was well and had the home at the beach.

I included utilities....later learned that having the one elderly guy live there was actually costing me more money than bringing in funds.

All the neighbors were complaining about the cost of utilities going up so I assumed it was just that until he moved out and my utilities went down.

Guessing it depends on the person. I have trouble just having visitors in my apartment. It sets me back health wise even though at the time I think I am doing oK.

Thanks for the comments

I am torn.

Yea Considering one or two roommates and i do have a bathroom on my master bedroom and another full bath for the other two bedrooms. Its not a big house but its is a 3 bedroom 2 bath.

I am just not sure if like Kam said it will affect my health. And I am sure it would depend on the person. or persons.

About downsizing. Not an option. I owe a bit more than the house is worth. Not a ton like others. And also. I would now not qualify to buy another with just SSDI. So I had hoped all these years I would get better and get back to work and it would all work out. Then i could do what your saying.

I had besides SSDI until this last year other income that came from various sources that is now gone.

Even so.. If I had roommates it would pay for me to say in the house. Most likely I would have to rent both rooms.

Or I could rent the WHOLE house and move out for now. If I can get the payments down far enough Rent could cover my mortgage and taxes and insuarnce. But nothing left for maintenece.

So.. there is plenty I have to fix if I went to the option of renting all of it and many projects half done and half painted or not done at all ..

Oh thanks for listening.

I am not sure what to do.

I also dream of a simpler life. A space that has just the basics and no yard or pool or house. Then again I am also not going to be able to take my dog if I go somewhere else as she is an American Staffordshire Terrier.. Pit bull family.

So anyone know of anyone who needs a place to live?? Do you guys trust craigslist for advertising for roommates? Any other ideas for roommate searching.

My family says walk away and go live with them. Hmmmm I am not feeling too great about that. But at least I have a back up plan.

None of my family or friends who have offered would be ok with me bringing my dog.

My mother knows someone who does housing sitting for weeks and months on end and people let her bring her dog. I looked into that and even advertised as a test but did not get responses. And the places online that help you find that work want a ton of references and background checks and all that before they will even consider you.

The other option is to get some sort of freelance work or job going .. I was a sole proprietor and I know how to run a business. I am feeling a lot better but not enough to jump right back in. The business was in prepress and printing and photography and it was tight deadlines of either same day or next day. I could not handle that stress. But if I find something that I can do on my own time and do it on my good days that would work. Just can not think of something in my field that is not deadlines unless I go to the artistic side.

HAHA Sorry to babble and vent and pour my personal thoughts all over the page.

But well.... anyway

Does anyone have any online or side businesses you have been able to do while your still somewhat sick that do not takea ton of energy?? When I was very sick I would not even consider it but I think I could do something at least part time now.

If anyone has experience with something they found to work. Thanks for any ideas.

Blessings.

And again Thanks for the time and support.

I know being someone with Chronic Lyme could affect this as well as my own health if I end up in a stressfull situation ... and that could be bad.. bad bad.. bad. bad..

I am worried about it for sure...

I think if you rented out the room it would be ok. Of course you are going to interview these people (and maybe run a background check, lol) and get to know them a little bit before they move in.

You could always put in the rental agreement some kind of clause that says something about if their behavior becomes unruly or whatever that they can be evicted with how ever many days notice your state requires.

Like when I was in real estate you could evict your tenant if you wanted to sell or move back in but they had to be given 60-90 days notice.

Good Luck on your choice, it's a tough one.

SS....Don't see any quick answers to this. Like you, I have times when I wish I could think of something I could do to bring in an income that works around this condition.

Tough shoes to be in even for someone who is well much less someone who is battling this disease.

Good you are looking at your options. If your brain works like mine, it is in a fog most days and can't see or think clearly.

Hey. I just realized LN is back on line. hurray!

Is there a bountiful baskets in your area? There is one here in the next town. A year or so ago I was doing well enough to go there a couple of times and pick up a basket of fresh veggies and fruit for $20.

it is only during the suumer time here.

The room mate situation looks like the next step at this point.

Wish I could give you some advice on how to pick a good tenant/room mate.

I did have a wonderful family rent my home at one time. But, like you....I did not have the back up funds to maintain a rental so thought selling it was the best choice.

Looking back, I not so sure that was the best choice.

Here is an idea,

my friend takes care of two mentally handicapped men in her home.

She works through an agency and gets paid really good.

If you are well enough, you could do that, or instead maybe a couple of seniors who need a bit of help, but don't want to live in nursing homes.

I would look for different agencies.

In her experience, the government never paid very much.

There could also be jobs that you could do on the phone at home. Glaxosmithkline was just advertising a job like that.

I have heard of many jobs like that.
eg. telemarketing companies
Large companies post jobs on their websites.

Maybe people here could give you more ideas.
