My son's school is going on a retreat in two weeks. Of course it is at a camp and involves outdoor activities.
He is in remission, we think, but still has some residual effects from the lyme. He is new at this school and it would be a great time for him to bond with the other kids.
We thought about plastering his clothes with permanone, and sending tick spray along. He won't put it on, as he is in denial and is non-compliant with anything having to do with lyme.
We've spent two years, thousands of dollars, travelled thousands of miles to get him to this place in his life. The usual nightmare we've all been through.
It seems like the lyme patients who get bitten a second time have an even harder time getting well.
I don't think his immune system is up to speed yet.
I forgot to mention that they will at least be sleeping in cabins and not tents.
I'm terrified and praying for rain.
Should we let him go or not?

I believe that we should encourage our children to do whatever they feel up to at that time. We can not hide them indoors forever. If I am not mistaken Lyme is everywhere not just in the woods. I think using the permanone on clothing and sending the spray is helping him to see that he can have a life even if he has Lyme. Celebrate the healthy days!

Yes, just soak his camp clothes in permethrin and spray all the shoes and socks he will take. You can even do it while he is out of the house somewhere.
Or you can just tell him this is the condition for his attendance at the camp. If he won't do this, he doesn't go. He is going to have to take some responsibility for himself.

We already planned to soak the clothes. He knows that. After he gets there and needs to apply the other tick spray to his skin is what I'm worried about.
We use Avon Skin So Soft. Anyone know of any others as good or better for the skin? I've heard the permanone can't be beat for the clothes.
As for accepting responsibility, I'm all for it. Being a teenager, I can't see what he does when he's not here.
He is usually pretty responsible, but is in some sort of denial about the lyme. We fought it for two years but he doesn't want to acknowledge it.
Guess I would forget about it too if I could.

Let the kid go to camp. Soak the clothes....I like what others suggest, too.

Good advice all around. Thanks. We are going to let him go. One of the teachers has agreed to be my partner-in-crime, and make sure my son and all the kids are sprayed.
I told her I'd supply the stuff; we use Avon Skin So Soft, she's gonna take care of it. They want all the kids to be protected.
