Does anyone have muscle twitching? On the left side of my face and body (which is also the side that the tick was) just constantly twitches. Just wondering if anyone else has this?

Yes - my son has twitches & ticks... don't really know if there is a difference between the two. I consider the tick less severe than the twitch. Mostly shoulders and face and if it's really bad it has knocked him off a dining room chair!

I just got a PM suggesting tonic water because it contains quinine... My son has recently been put on plaquinil which seems to be relieving the involuntary twitches.

I do believe this is the Babesia that causes this... and yes, my son's is (oddly) left side of face and body.

Maybe someone has more insight as to why this would be left side dominant and other possible ways of relieving the twitches.

You should be taking magnesium for muscle twitches.

Exactly as lou says. Magnesium GLYCINATE is best.

wow, thank you for the information. I now take neurontin, cymbalta, norco 10, and flexeril. I also have a spinal cyst and disk herniation. Do you get magnesium from the pharmacy or is it over the counter?

Over the counter. Don't buy magnesium oxide. It's the cheapest and is not readily absorbed by the body.

Now if you need a "laxative" then oxide is the way to go! (no pun intended! [lol] )

I was buying more expensive magnesium for years, taking two different kinds to cover all the bases. Having to mail order them. Then a while back I forgot to take them on a trip and had to buy magnesium oxide at a drugstore. And it works just as well as the more expensive kinds for me! Very surprised to find this out.

I have the muscle twitching as well, though probably not as bad as some here. It's just every once in awhile, something will twitch. Sometimes even my face. And when it does, it drives me nuts..b/c it doesn't stop.

I can attest first hand to the benefits of the magnesium. I had gone off of it b/c I had some bloodwork coming up, and didn't want my results to be "off". It was then that the twitching started.

So head off to Walmart, and get you some magnesium!

My son is taking magnesium oxide - 250 mg / 2x a day - perhaps I should look for the magnesium glycinate... if he finds them to be a laxative he hasn't complained!

Twitches did not go away or get noticeably better when he upped the dosage from one time a day to 2x a day.

I am almost out of magnesium... if anyone has a suggestion as to brand, I would appreciate it. I know Dr B's guidelines say the Niche Pharmaceuticals that are available at Wal-Mart are the best... anyone try getting these?

Also - my son's iron has dropped recently. In my research I found that magnesium can stop the absorption of iron - anyone else had issues with low iron? We started an [slow FE] iron supplement (on the advice of our LLMD) and he is taking that separately (at a different time of day) as the mag supplement.

momlyme.. If buying at Wal Mart, buy only brands that are well-known (like you mentioned above).

MUCH of their stuff comes straight from China and I don't trust what's in them!!

I buy KAL brand Mg Glycinate from Vitacost.

MS crawford....aside from allergic/chemical sensitivities and electrosensitivities,
Cymbalta can make you twitch. It is a side effect. That's not to say that my twitching stopped when off of it, but it got a lot better.

I still twitch at nighttime / when lying down, but started after the Cymbalta.
