I'm no Phd, but came across this study in mice showing how different serotypes of the same borrelia species tend to infect different parts of the host.
I thought this was interesting since borrelia presents itself so vastly differently from person to person. Considering there are 300 known strains of borrelia, just imagine the diversity of symptoms between them all!
When you figure in the genetic, diet, and immune status differences between persons, it's no wonder lyme symptoms vary so much between patients.
