Just thought that some of you would appreciate this...
It might also just be another thing to get mad about.
Anyway, as I'm not able to do much of anything besides watch TV and sparingly use the computer, I recently started watch the show "House", which focuses on a brilliant but socially inept diagnostician. Each episode centers around one patient, each presenting with an extremely intricate case. Kind of a medical "whodunnit".
In just ONE episode (aired in 2004), he discounts the possibility of Lyme disease because the patient doesn't present with a rash (good job writing staff!) and dismisses a patient who thinks he may have CFS/FM, giving him sugar pills as a placebo.
Funny to watch this supposedly brilliant character display his ignorance regarding these diseases.

- I detest that character. House reminds me of all the idiot and ignorant doctors along the way - if I happen to see this at all, it just brings up PTSD from all the medical abuse over years.
The last redeeming thoughts of each show bring out some sort of humanity in House and that is supposed to cancel out all the abuse he gives patients? Oy, Vey!
And any thought of a place like that hospital where a team of doctors actually researched and took time diagnosing, well that's just a fairy tale, for sure. -

Actually, in the newest episode which aired 1/24, he starts 2 patients on doxy, even though they didn't have a rash, because only 40% of lymies present with a rash, and a bug bite is easy to miss.
Turned out to not be lyme, but he did start them on it just in case. PROGRESS!!!

He's becoming a LLMD after all!! FINALLY. Next he'll use IV Abx, start Rxing endless supplements from his own pharmacy he starts up and do chealtion therapy. lol. Patients will be told he doesn't accept insurance anymore. House 'the next generation'

Maybe his response was aired to make a point. That is, to show the ignorance of other docs doing the same thing. Just a different "spin" on it. Of course, I wasn' t there to watch the show, so my comment could be wrong. But one thing I have learned: Given the same set of events, the way we interpret it is what is key. And our interprations can be very right. Or very wrong. There can be umpteen different conclusions to draw, given the same pieces of the puzzle to figure out.

Sure he is a mean, manipulative bastard, but bet my right arm he would have had all of us diagnosed many years ago! Probably would have only taken one visit with him and he'd have us aggressively treated asap, with none of the bull that we've had to endure for years before even getting a diagnoses! Wish there was a Dr. House in real life.
