What a horrible situation. We watched the storms all night but felt fairly safe where we are. We are usually protected by the hills. (we were) Thank you, Lord!
I was just watching our news and they said Joplin is a city of 75,000 and 1/3 of the city buildings.. homes and/or businesses are damaged or destroyed.
The news crew from our TV station (nearby city) was just now standing out there reporting and lightning hit so near them you could hear it and the TV screen went black for a bit. YIKES!!!
People 35 miles from us have found medical records, including X-rays from the hospital that was damaged in Joplin! That is at least 75 miles away!!
They also said volunteers and neighbors evacuated that hospital in an hour and a half. They got all the patients out. Many are in nearby cities now.
Please continue to pray for the people and the families left behind. The count is now 116 dead and rising. They are still finding survivors, but this weather is not helping.

I just cannot even imagine.
My heart goes out to them, particularly the ones who are sick and weak and are now displaced on top of it.

I would love to help. These people are going to need clothing. Could you check with your church or other local churches in area.
I would love to share gentle worn clothing from my family. I will pay postage to send to a church or org.
As long as I know the people of Joplin will get my donations, I want to help? I could send by male or female labeled, children and sized per box to help the people distribute.
Pam
I have 2 big boxes of shoes from childrens to adult size that I was going to give to charity for other countries. I will give to Americans first and next time to others in the rest of the world. Joplin families need shoes too!!!

I would wait awhile. I'll listen to see when they recommend clothing. Right now they said do NOT send clothing. They have NO place to put it. They will later. Thanks for your generous thought and offer of help.

My heart and prayers join with all of yours...for these people who have lost so much. Especially all of the families who lost loved ones. It is a sad time. It is unimaginable.
Oh, Lord God may Your light shine bright in the darkness. May Your grace be more than sufficient. You are faithful.

Text 50555 to donate. Convoy Of Hope has been helping in disaster relief all over the world. They are based 70 miles from Joplin, MO in Springfield. It's a Christian organization.
They just upgraded this tornado to an EF-5.

When I heard on the news tonight that it was a F4. I thought no way that was a 4. I knew that kind of destruction had to be the mother tornado.
I've got friends and family on facebook wanting to help with clothing. I think I will organize something here in Louisville, Ky to Joplin Missouri folks when the time is right.
My heart is so heavy when I see others lose everything they worked so hard to have. If they and their loved ones survived they are blessed, but to lose all but the clothing on my back, that would be bad too.
Even the Walmart and Home Depot (or was it Lowe's) was wiped out.

I know. I knew in my heart that had to be a 5. Made me cry when they announced it was a 5. Gads.
They were collecting clothes here and sending it to the schools. But you would need to know WHICH school is still standing. Some organization here must know .. but I don't.
We have yet more flooding here. They have opened the flood gates on the dam again. Poor people have not been able to even clean up from the flooding 2 wks ago and now their homes are flooded again.

The new temporary hospital was being housed one mile down the road from us. They are assembling it in Joplin now. ( I think they put some of it together here, then moved it. Not sure of the whole story. )
Please continue your prayers.... and donations if you can. See links above in this thread.

You know more about Joplin than we do since you get news everyday. Just help me find a reliable site and not a scammer to start collecting stuff to send. Church or org in nearby town. I'll send to people in Springfield to drive it to them in shelters around Joplin.
I want to do good clothing and shoes for children and adults. Every thing washed and ready to wear.

Let me know if they can't help. Maybe I can call our TV station.
I saw on the news Friday that someone was there with a sign that said "free clothes" .. they were just out there in the open somewhere giving out clothes.

Thank you. I will call them this weekend and get info whether the people are ready for clothing and where to ship.
I'm going to start with my family tonight. Then Facebook. Some friends wanted to help too.
I'm going to be pretty specific with everyone on what I'm looking to do. I want clothing in boxes by size, age if child or toddler. That way they can specifically help a family with clean washed summer clothes needs by gender and size.
Going to laundry mat to wash clothes would be a burden. Maybe some will want to give money for food and water?
