I'm having a terrible time. Live in Chicago area and IL doesn't seem to be a very friendly chronic lyme state. I've been treated by a doctor from MO for the past year and now it appears I need IV antibiotics. He wrote the order for the PICC line insertion, meds, labs, etc. Everything was approved and precertified through insurance. Home health ordered meds and have someone scheduled but I CAN'T FIND a HOSPITAL to INSERT a PICC line from an out of state order. I just saw the doctor last week and am scheduled for follow up visits every month. What's the deal and how do I possibly get this done?????? PLease help. I'm open to about anything.

You need to find a local doctor who is willing to take this on. They may be willing to consult with the dr in MO.

Can you get a regular doctor in your state to issue the picc line insertion? Certain things cannot be done over state lines.

I had the same issue. Went to my family Dr., he wrote the order for the PICC and then went to local hospital and had it done.

Try calling around to freestanding/outpatient interventional radiology clinics. They will likely accept an out of state physicians order.
Most hospitals require an order from a local doctor with "privileges".

I also had a family MD re-write my order for PICC line, and it was done at local hospital afterward. Has worked out well. Good luck.
