i play an african djembe. have been for years and hand drumming on this ancient instrument is found to be very good for the brain! it's amazing. vibrational healing plus the hand brain thing and what a great feeling when you get good, it's meditational.
i listen to jazz and true classic rock, allot.
i listen to classical sometimes.
i'm a singer, and when i'm singing, i'm sure i have some of those healing frequencies happening. i've been too sick to sing full out, but just focused light vocal excercises are very healing to me. so is listening to great music.
that's what works for buddhist chanting and other nature "frequencies", like the ocean.
thanks for the post so we don't forget to do these things when you are sick!

My daughter plays piano, so I love to listen to her and my son who plays piano and guitar.
I also like Nicole Mullins, and some of the other Christian artists.
When I don't have a headache, I like to listen to Eric Clapton in the car - really loud.

I love Taking Back Sunday and The Used...my two favorite bands....they really help me get through...another one is Underoath and I believe they are Christian. Music is what gets me through...Thank God for it!

If anyone likes classical, I find the last 4 Beethoven piano sonatas are perfect - endlessly interesting, full of variety, complicated, the last one is ethereal and totally sweeps me into another place...

I like Metallica, Seether, Staind, you get the idea. On the far extreme side of that I also listen to new wavy, meditation type music too.

There is an interesting abundance of non-chick music here. I would've never expected. I thought you guys were gonna say "Whitney Houston" and "Bryan Adams" and all that.

i love music and need it but i dont know hardly any of who you guys listen to
i need acoustic...folky-country stuff-and then some classic rock i guess
lymetoo...have you heard the recent country songs with rap in them??? they crack me up...i think the laughing is good for me
when i need to get revved up to clean the house i usually put on janis joplin
my 38 yo son picked a james taylor song for our mother/son dance at the wedding...it made me cry. he remembered hearing it so much when he was growing up. the one about the cowboy.
mo-i didnt know that about the drums. our church has a drumming group and i have wanteed to join but thought it would hurt my hands too much. there is something that really speaks to me when they play. and i really cant live without the ocean...i NEED to be by it sometimes. i love falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
i also meditate pain away but have never done chanting...
i really like lyrics...

i don't recognize any except the classical and the australian instruments.
strictly elevator, american indian, irish/celtic, brahms, etc for me. some allison krause, early country.
no hard rap, modern for me. strictly old stuff.
well since i am over 60...definitely no lady gaga, marilyn manson, etc.
i need relaxation not stimulating nerve wracking pain. anything loud like that makes me a total freaking mess.... i can't even watch some tv shows.

Somehow when I clean the house, I need upbeat music. Like electronic, trance, house music.
I know it's not really "quality" music but I need to hear the beats to keep me motivated.
Back in college I used to go dancing a lot so maybe that is why I connect to it somehow - keeps me young!

Is there such a thing as Christian music without the religious lyrics? What would that be called? Does that make any sense at all? I like that singer/songwriter quality and Chris Tomlin has beautiful sounding music, but I would also be interested in something similar that's not solely religious. Does that exist? I liked David Archuletta's first CD, but his second one kinda sucked.

some are just the melodies of popular praise music, hymns, songs etc.

LOL. I think I've smelled that same aroma at a concert or two (such as the Allman Brothers)..
I find that I listen to classical music when I'm feeling the worst. I have less trouble with that type of music sticking in my head and repeating. It's also quite soothing.

That's true about classical not repeating. My husband will listen to easy listening jazz (or other jazz) sometimes in the car. The easy listening kind will repeat and repeat till I'm nearly mad!
I love to hear my husband play jazz on sax or clarinet. Awesome!
kayak.. yeah, they used to play music for my mother too. She loved instrumentals.

Merrygirl....I also love the same type of music you listen too...some good rock gets the anger out of me! I feel like I have a lot of anger and sadness lately. It's wierd how I can have a crying spell(feeling sooo very depressed), and then once I am out of tears, go to the rock and say I can do this!!! I will beat this!! Love it!

It's funny that it's completely pointless, but it has almost a million views.
That is a strange video! She has a cute voice though.
I recommend the movie - although it is depressing so maybe not when you have a bad day. It's not really a musical - it's just some parts where she breaks out to song but they are pretty cool songs (the ones in the factory).
