Perhaps most surprising, researchers found the genetic footprint of bacteria known as Borrelia burgdorferi in his DNA--making the Iceman the earliest known human infected by the bug that causes Lyme disease.

This is a HUGE discovery. First, it means that Lyme is not a new disease, but has been infecting humans for at least thousands of years. If people have been getting sick from borrelia burgdorferi for eons, what were they being diagnosed with prior to Willy Burgdorfer's identification of the organism? Answer: ABL, Anything But Lyme, same thing they are getting diagnosed with today, i.e. arthritis, gout, MS, Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig's, depression, insanity......
Secondly, of the billions of humans that have lived and died on this planet only one cadaver has survived from antiquity and it had Lyme Disease. Clearly, Lyme was a common affliction of mankind.
I believe it will turn out that B. burgdorferi and coinfections have been the cause of a multitude of chronic diseases affecting humans from time immemorial.

My PCP left the exam room when I was there on Wed and he went to his office to retrieve his copy of National Geographic. He was so excited to show it to me!
