Well, I went to see a duck today. I've been having abdominal/pelvic pain, got worse last night.
I have a history of ovarian cysts so called my ob/gyn, who is a woman, my favorite md, very understanding etc.
She was out of the office today.
So I got to see another md in the practice - a male doctor.
I explained the sx and he almost completely dismissed everything I said. My female md always does an untrasound. Had to beg for one, and had to ask for a urine test to rule out UTI or kidney stone.
Then had to ask for the result.
He said 50 year old women don't get appendicitis, so it can't be that.
Has anyone here over the age of 50 had appendicitis? I have read it's not as common, but does happen.
I guess I shouldn't have wasted my time with a duck. But at least ruled out UTI and kidney stone. Did have cysts, but he said not big enough to cause pain.
Ultrasound tech, a female, said the smaller ones can cause lots of pain depending on where they are located.
I think Dr. Duck needs become a female for a while experience some of this stuff for himself.
To the guys on lymenet, if it seems like I'm slamming men, I'm not. It's just a pattern with male doctors I have noticed.

My grandfather had appendicitis in his 70s. Or was it 80s? Either way, definitely over 50.

Me too. Maybe God is trying to teach me self-control. I just wanted to throttle him, but refrained.

I'm glad you didn't experience any pain. You've had enough to deal with already.

- A friend of mine had appendicitis at the age of 58. She was fairly healthy (in spite of chronic breast cancer), ideal weight, etc.
She nearly died out of hesitancy to call 911. Her appendix ruptured. She barely made it into surgery in time to save her life.
Talk about surprising the doctors, I've read a few reports of left-sided appendicitis. -

Yes, Ipkayak, not all of them are jerks. Lately, I have just had some bad luck, I guess.
My SIL had hers out recently, she's 44. The doc said it was the worst he had ever seen. It had gangrene. They got it in time.

OH.. just remembered a friend who died at age 70 something from appendicitis. He and his wife thought it was just a virus or something and by the time he did go to the hospital it was too late.
How are you doing today, linky?
