I made an appt with my gastro due to stomach issues. at least that's what I thought I was doing. instead they said oh you'll see this person. i said why not so in so, he's my dr. oh he's so busy, he's booking months out. you'll see her.
ummm shes a doctor's asst or something, not a gastro specialist.
they gave me an appt in four days.
I feel like I'm being shoved off. this dr repeatedly told me I had ibs. everything was ibs.
his scheduler said very snidely oh you cancelled your colonoscopy. I said yep sure did. when I'm so nauseous and can't keep food down, how am I going to keep that golytely down. I'm too sick to have it right now. so she says well if you feel you dont want it, thats up to you. I could have gotten so mad.
but I feel like I'm being shoved off.
ever get that feeling?

Yes .. but .. You may end up really liking the nurse practitioner or whatever she is.
Sometimes you get more information out of them than from the doctor.
I see the nurse practitioner for my cardiologist once a year and the big guy once a year.
I had to make an "emergency" appointment with my allergist last month. He was booked for about 6 wks out, so I saw the NP. I really liked her.
So .. it's not all bad! Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

Yes, I haven't seen my doctor in years.
First he sent me to his brother ,he was way cool and good. He was so good he got a job as a head doctor in a small hospital.
Now I see the nurse practitioner jury is out, she is very nice.

Yes. I think all gi docs are backed up now cuz of food supply. My last diverticulitis attack they refused to treat me after 6 weeks of symptoms unless I took a test that required a dye I am allergic to. I left and treated myself and got better but I don't like doing that. I honestly believe someone benefits financially from them not treating us and its going to get worse My gi practice has a monopoly in a 50 mile area. I have to drive over an hour to find another practice. This is so wrong but I think it is the way of the future

well I pay the rate of 175 for an office visit. I would kinda think you should see a doctor for that much money.
but he is doing the endoscopy/colonoscopy on april 2. he will have to talk to hubs cause I'll be completely out of it. I take a long time for any sedative to wear off.

I'm thinking, "Well if you're going to send in a sub, so will I." And then find some random homeless person who needs an exam.
I agree about the pricing though. I would ask at the desk, "Seeing how the NP is not a Dr., how much is the bill going to be as it will not be the same."

In the article at NPR / Fresh Air . . . scroll down to the very end where it details how many women feel the need to take a male relative to appointments just to verify that the woman is telling the truth about her symptoms to be taken seriously.
But then that so often backfires, too, as it usually shreds the woman's credibility by taking a spokesman for her. -

ummm, yeah, taking my husband, not a good idea.
the only time he behaved was when I was in the er with blood pressure of 253. I had drs and nurses right by me.
he sat over in a corner and kept his mouth shut.
he didn't try and tell the doctors anything, thank god.
