I've had trouble sitting at my computer for more than 20 minutes and am using my Palm (with magnifying glass) to write on and to access Web.

I can't afford to buy an iPad just now. Does anyone know how to buy a used one? How much would it cost?

Good question. Watching this post.

My computer is next to my bed. I am no longer able to sit upright.

So, I am laying in bed with the keyboard on my legs which helps support my arms too.

I also wonder if the kim komando web site might have a post on this.

I think the Sprint web site had refurbished Ipads for sale but not sure.

I did a search and AMazon and ebay have them but have yet to look into it more.

In the past, I have noticed that Amazon's used prices aren't much different than new prices.

Check out the Nook Tablet.

My sister has the tablet version, it is a good size. Easy to use. The books are cheap for it. I've used it to surf the Internet and played around with it. It's fast and works well.

It's much cheaper than the Mac iPad. If you truly want an iPad you might wait until the holidays. They are supposed to be coming out with a new slightly smaller more affordable version of the iPad. At least this is what I have read and been told...

I have an iPad. I do love it. One thing to be aware of, it is heavy. Much heavier than the nook tablet.

Prices of iPads will vary greatly. Look at the Mac website to see if there is a refurbished one that meets your needs. That's how I got my computer a couple years ago.

Also Mac website will allow you to compare the features of the available iPads. They still sell iPad2 directly from the site, I think you can get one for $300 something...

I used credit card rewards to get mine so that may be something for you to check into.

Another idea: I need a new computer and just found out last night about Chromebooks. They are Google laptops, @ 11" and 12". They are only $249 for the cheapest version, and $449 for the next one up, and then slightly higher for a souped up version.

They sound as good as the Macbook Air. The only thing is that there is automatic storage in the cloud, and that is free for 2 years. That part is wonderful.

I"m not sure yet if you can store as much data in the normal way, but maybe so. For your purpose, this would be great. They are extremely light; the $249 one is less than 2 1/2#s.

Next year, they are supposed to add a touch screen, which they don't have now.

I'm not sure I would like "typing" on an iPad.

New iPad mini came out, starts at $329. Still expensive but less than it's big brother.

Tu...a friend of mine no longer uses her computer.

All of her communication is via her ipad and I wonder about her health.....she will not see a LLMD.

But, she is still able to teach. I figure if she can do it we can. [Smile]

I use an ipad sometimes and typing is a pain! I second the thought of a nook tablet, kindle fire or a nexus 7. All of those are very reasonable at $200 or so.

I would hesitate to buy a used electronic of any kind, but especially an expensive one like an ipad. There are so many things that can be wrong with it and it may not last. The only exception to this would be if I knew the person. I would definitely not buy one online.
