Hi Everyone,

Isolation is a huge problem with people affected by chronic Lyme.

When you are surrounded by family, friends, non- Lyme literate drs., etc. that don't understand and can't relate to what you are going through, it can be very lonely out there in Lymeland.

I know this was a problem for me. I felt isolated. I felt no one (including my husband, mother, etc.) related to me. But it wasn't until I joined Facebook that I made many personal connections.

There are literary thousands of Lymies who are on Facebook. It's a great place to find people and for people to find you.

So, if you haven't joined FB - what are you waiting for? I even have a Healer Dealer Page where I post holistic and healthy living tips:

You can beat isolation and be friends with those who know what you're going through. It is a blessing for many.

There are others like me, who are in remission, who are posting their blogs and writing books.

You can beat isolation - right at home. But you need to make the first move. And when you join FB, don't forget to "like" my page!

Healer

I agree with you - FB can be the best place to stay connected with friends and family when one doesn't feel like being "social" in public. It keeps us connected to the world that we may not be able to physically enjoy at the moment.

I too have a fb page. **moderator's note - please do not post links to pages you have a financial gain from. We do not allow any kind of solicitation on Lymenet. Thank you. **

I hope to be setting up a healing blog shortly - if I ever find the time.

For those with open FB pages, be aware that once you identify yourself as havning lyme, further endeavors in work could be affected.

Insurance companies, too, can lock into social media in efforts to prevent the best coverage for many.

Keep your privacy controls set to only those you know for the best protection.

FB and social media can really be a window to the world. Even if "virtual" these links can help with a new kind of cameraderie.

Just be sure only those you want can get in. And think of next year, the next five years as well as today. Once something is lifted off a posted and taken out of your hands, all bets are off.

For those with public pages, or public blogs, just be sure to keep some sort of boundaries for your safety. It's possible to make a point and be personable while not divulging details that could compromise you or family members.

Not everyone on the web is there to learn or to connect. Still, there are ways to keep them out of our lives. The main thing is to never post personal or family details, address or when you'll be out of town - or even out for dinner.

Never post of any Rx that anyone might want to steal - mostly drugs that affect pain as they can be used to also alter awareness, hot on the market in any neighborhood. I know this sounds odd but there are those who surf illness sites on the web, hoping for drugs.

Homes have been broken into from such information posted on the web.

With just a few key "safety rules" social sites can be as intented - a place to make friends.

Oh, how I would love to be out working and able to clean house so much I once took for granted.. would be completed isolated if it wasn't for my FB friends and Lymenet. My family will never get it..after all these years..

Good advice, Keebler. People get too comfortable on FB. I've seen lyme drs. full names posted!

People post addresses, phone#'s, what prescriptions they are taking and dosages, and when they are going on vacation or going away for the weekend!

It's a big world out there and you have to be cautious! But if you keep that in mind, It's a great way to connect!
