this might be tacky to ask, but here's what happened.
i bought three pair of orthoheel sandals from qvc. they ain't cheap. 60 bucks a pair.
two have never been worn. the tan pair i wore twice.
these fit size 5-6.
however the tops of my feet have broken out and are red and irritated where the strap goes. i think i may be allergic to something in the straps or something.
i hate to give them to goodwill. my sisters all have big feet. well to me anything over a 7 is big!!
does anybody have any ideas of what i can do with them? i just hate to throw them away and it's too late to return them.

- If you think you are allergic, I would return them to QVC for a refund. Most stores would offer a refund if you would be allergic to the material of the shoe.
Call them first. They would want to know and will likely offer excellenct service to solve this.
I would also call the main manufacturer. They would also want to know and problem solve or otherwise resolve this.
If you can't do that, you might call a podiatrist's office and ask them if they can instruct you on a 100% guaranteed method to "sterilize" the sandals for others.
The thing is that it could be that you are allergic to the material but, still, whatever that rash is (the "contents" which could be some infectious microbes) could still transfer to another person's feet.
There is no guarantee of even bleach cleaning everything. So, a podiatrist's office would be the best bet to find out more about how to do that, if it can be done.
Thinking back to when you first got them. Did you first wash off any film that might have been there from the manufacturing process? You might ask if this could be the issue.
I'm sure there is some way. Please, do not just throw them away. I hate to say this but there are people all over the world with no shoes.
I'm sure there is some way to sterilize them and then donate them to a women's shelter, etc. -

well i washed the tan pair twice to make sure they were clean.
i really like them but my feet don't!!
i never thought of calling qvc back and telling them about it. maybe there's something they can do, i sure hope so.

i've done some research and may have an idea.
i am allergic to the rubber in certain bandaids and the tapes used in hospitals.
i found an article on the web that people were experiencing blisters and other foot problems after buying thong sandals from walmart. come to find out, they were made in china and these individuals had an allergic reaction either to the process used to make the rubber or the rubber itself.
so i'm thinking it has something to do with the rubber component of the shoe cause i've worn thongs from mexico and other places and had no problems. my sister even gave me a pair and i loved them.
it's just these particular shoes. shame, i really do like them.

Well, heck! I'm sure QVC would take them back. They don't want to be libel.
If I could tolerate anything between my toes I'd be game to try.... but I know that won't work for me.

- There may be a way to wrap the strap part in a fabric. It may be a bit tricky but I can envision that. -

thanks so much for your help. i called qvc and explained that i have a rubber allergy and they said "if you still have the shipping label, just return them."
i'm floored...i'll have to get a box and return them asap cause i leave on friday.
but i told them anything you can credit is fine. made sure to tell them i love the darn shoes but they don't love me.
thanks for even suggesting it cause i would have just gotten rid of them and right now i can't throw that money away.
ya'll saved me a bunch.
the ole saying "it never hurts to try" sure is true!!!

I've returned plenty of items from the Q that were well past the 30 day return window. Give customer service a call and see what they say.

Yes, about 4 years ago there were numerous reports of sandals that people were having serious reactions to.
My SIL had a terrible reaction, with blistering and swelling from a pair she bought at TJ Maxx. Her's were cheap one, so she threw them out. We did web search and found hundreds of sites about these toxic sandals.
Makes you wonder, just because they are making a expensive name sandal, they still are using toxic materials to make them?

Randibear- I am so sorry the Orthaheel's did not work out for you. I LOVE their sandals...only ones I can wear. I have very high arches and pronation.
I too have an allergy to bandaids (adhesive or the latex?? not sure) but have had no problems with the Orthaheels.
I have 3 pairs of the Tide style. Was curious which style caused you the problem? I have ordered pairs from QVC and directly from Orthaheel's own website, also.
I am happy to hear that QVC is making good on them even after the 30 days. I have not always been so pleased with their customer service in the past- so good to hear that maybe they are improving!!

They were the tide ones. One tan one navy one black and one red. My foot still has a brown discoloration where the strap touched the foot and its shiny and itches.
