It's true. These are the dangers of a colonoscopy.
I got my last routine colonoscopy about 3 years ago. My gastro told me that this would likely be my very last colonoscopy because in 10 years when I am due for my next one, they will likely no longer do colonoscopies at all. They will likely be able to test for colon cancer from a stool sample by then!
I mentioned this to another gastro a few months ago and he agreed.
So, goodbye colonoscopies. And, good ridance.

Doug Kaufman of "Know the Cause" says they cannot auto-clave yeast/fungus. So you could get infected from the colonoscopy. This discussion above is even MORE frightening!
My father had colon cancer and I've had polyps. I'm due this fall for a scope, but have already been thinking I may not do it.
Last time I went into A-fib after it.

I've had so many I cant count. I cant help but wonder about the effectiveness tho.
Wow so sorry about the afib. My sister did that during a nuclear stress test and flatlined on them...scared the heck out of all of us.

Wow, your link is shocking! Thanks for posting Lymetoo. :) I was going to get a colonoscopy since I'm off abx now. After reading this, I think I'll pass.

Have had three of 'em. My tailbone hurt for four months after the last one.
I really did think he had done some permanent damage.
Also, wonder about the possibility of passing c-diff from one person to the next, especially if the prep kills off all the good bacteria in the gut.

I would love it if there was a stool test to test for colon cancer.
My grandfather died from colon cancer, and both parents and a sibling have had polyps removed. I would argue that no anesthesia is not realistic.
My last colonoscopy was extremely light anesthesia and I hated it. I have had no polyps but my diet is vastly different from anyone is my immediate family.
I have to do one every 5 years due to family history and have had two so far with no problems.

There are virtual colonoscopies if you don't have underlying risk factors. It does use CT, which isn't ideal.

I know, faithful. I can't imagine doing it without anesthesia. They were going to do my next one in the OR due to my last round with going into A-fib, but that seems even more risky to me .. and way more expensive. Not sure it's worth it.
