Hi <<<<< Lyme Family >>>>>,

Our humble Desert abode has been invaded by Ants.... AArrgghh ! [Frown] And these bite...Owooch.

TxC' noticed them first, and then i found them too,we have traps down, and come pay day we'll get some DTE local plant nursery carries it.But we've both got a couple of bites.

I know ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas carry LD and Co's...do Ants??? I hope not...

Jus' Silverwolfi and TxCoord too

Ants seem to bite not for a meal as in vectors that carry disease among their living meals but more as a defense mechanism so (I think) they would not likely have bitten before (so not so likely to carry blood borne disease but just that from what they trapse through) or they would have been squashed.

Some ants actually have little stingers. I got an ant bite recently so did a little post mortem under the magnifying glass and then looked it up.

Also, I think ants, like bees are very sensitive at detection and would not allow in any that are "unwell" - at least those are my first thoughts.

A search should be able to tell you the truth. I am pretty sure ants have their own websites so as gain popular acceptance, probably on Twitter, too.

Search for the site: we are just so misunderstood.com

Thank you for the info' <<<<< Keebler >>>>>,

We'll check the net sites!!! I'm sure hoping they cannot spread LD and Co's!!! We don't need more health issues than what is already up.

Hope this will post... things still acting up from those storms.

<<<<<< Lymetoo and Randibear >>>>>,

1st off,Is everyone safe? We checked weather reports when we couldn't get in to some of the sites...scary.

I have to look up, if the fire ants are here. These are red and black,a bit different from the fire ants we had in Louisiana. But the bites are no fun. and mine itches now.

I've wondered if these are a weird hybrid cross??? The Louisiana ones, infected up almost immediately when we got bitten. And we try to stay far away from any ants w/ red on them.

As soon as payday comes we'll be getting the DTE willspread it indoors and out. We have traps down temporarily.

Wondering if we should get some astragulus again too... better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the replies so much!!!

<<<<< Lymetoo >>>>>,

Glad you are okay,we'll keep praying!

I looked up the Ant types here, they are Argentine fire ants. Mostly workers, tho' I killed a couple bigger ones.

The ones we had in Louisiana ,did have more red coloration, some of these are coppery red,and the workers are blackish and red[or very deep dark red on the abdomen.

Hmm maybe this is why my 'flu' symptoms haven't gone completely away... I have an odd blistery break out on my chin too.

It's Beyond annoying as I have to cut out most of my supplements 'til after Thur. afternoon, because of my upcoming blood test[non LLmd].

Have to go BBL,and hope I can get back on line...still getting booted off, and 'try again' messages.

You could try spraying them with Orange Guard, which you can find in hardware stores and healthfood stores, or the concentrate version, TKO Orange, which you can order online.

It's from oranges and is how oranges keep bugs away. Spraying directly on them may kill them.

silver -so sad this is happening to you. im fighing bees and chipmunks right now. not too many in the house tho.

i lived in LA for a year in 1969 i think it was. my husband was stationed at the air base in alexandria(or is it dra...i know they made a big thing about that)

anyway...yankee that i was...totally ignorent of fire ants...i plopped my 6 month old son down on top of a fire ant hill...OMG. talk about guilt to this day. all he had on was a diaper...so it was easy to get it off and see them all and get them off...but oh my. what a lesson.

What does vinegar & water do to ANTS???

vinegar disrupts the ants trails in other words vinegar and water deters ants

use salt and water=) the salt kills them.

Never tried that one,but baking soda is good, and believe it or not beer.

They freak out because the acid in the vinegar burns their little feet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar

SO SILVER---VINEGAR WOULD BE ABUSIVE I GUESS...BUT SALT OR BAKING SODA OR BEER MIGHT WORK B4 YOU GET TO THE STORE

DE helps get rid of ants. We have some of the big black ones. It looked funny to see them going with the DE on their backs. White instead of black ants!

After that we had a time of being ant free, until we had used up the DE. Finally got some more - now to powder the ants again!

Hi there <<<<< Robin', 'kayak, and MannaMe >>>>>,

Thanks for the input, used the last of the vinegar on them, and an orange citrus base cleaner it did help.

Perhaps it doesn't seem kind, but neither is getting bitten,in the wee hours of the morning and finding ants marching about in the bedding.

Pay day is coming and we are getting the DE/Dte from a local plant nursery then...after I get my blood test done[basic cbc,and A1c].

Kayak, those Ant nests are awful, hope the little one didn't get ill from the bites.

TxCoord took me duck hunting once, slogging thru thick bayou mud [we're talkin' like 1980], i finally had to sit down to wearying.

Uhm...NEVER SIT ON A MUSKRAT HOUSE ,they mound the grasses and branches and mud up, to make their houses, about right to sit down,if really cold weather is coming, don't do it... don't do it...don't sit down.

Louisiana red fire Ants, like to swarm over the muskrat houses. About the time they started to bite and sting me...I started shedding clothes...just as a helicopter went over.

I really didn't care at that point, I just wanted the stinging bites to stop. They prolly got a good laugh at the strange crazy lady in the bayou mud, shedding and beating her clothing and brushing herself off repeatedly.

I never went duck hunting again in the bayou, and
I haven't forgotten the pain from those bites.

Any hows thanks for the input and the links from each one.

Lymetoo, hope y'all made it back and forth safely, and the storms are stopping!
