I have gotten skeptical about these studies, having seen how the truth can be twisted in ones related to lyme. So, until someone explains why this would happen, it seems better in the maybe column.
There are some populations who eat a lot of fish. Have they been studied to see if they have higher rates of prostate cancer? I doubt it.
It is true that fish can accumulate heavy metals from their environment, such as mercury. I had a friend throw away salmon caught in the Great Lakes when he read the warning about not consuming a lot of this type of fish, due to high mercury levels.

They don't want us taking supplements, so I would guess that Big Pharma paid for it.

- Find the original constructs of the study. Examine the kind used (where did the oil come from, exactly), source, storage, treatment, dosages and also the life-style and other aspects of diet, Rx and supplements of patients in the study.
Was it mercury & heavy-metal free? Any PCBs, etc.? From what fish, what waters? How processed?
Did the fish oil EVER get too hot? That will ruin it right then and there. Was it fresh, if not, it can be ruined and becomes toxic, as do all oils when they get old.
Did they consume any roasted nuts? Those oils are old and toxic to humans.
What was in with the fish oil, did it go through any processing. What was the gelcap composed of?
The overall study population? Composition?
See what OTHERS have studied about this.
Still, it's always best to eat the real deal, real fish. It's just that our waters are so polluted that it's hard to find and very expensive.
Did study participants drink or eat out of ANY plastics? Were they around ANY scents? These have some cancer relations, too. Etc.
Did the live in cities? Air quality? Water quality? Did they consume diet or regular sodas? Alcohol? Fast foods?
Did they live in the country? Near a farm? Organic farm or farm that used farm chemicals?
Where they around chemicals? Many other variables to sort out.
Percentage wise, would the same number in the group been on par with general population? -

- There are a few researchers who should be addressing this study soon. Keep your eyes open for the others to weigh in on the specifics of this study. -

Here is maybe where this ties in, and it is not restricted to fish oils, so stopping one supplement is not going to change the situation much. In fact, it does not look like the lipids like fish oil are causing it. Rather, the cancer cells reprogram the host metabolism to increase fatty acids at a level higher than normal, for their own purposes.

Hopefully Dr Mercola will say something about it

- Yes, Mercola is very good as assessing the parameters of such nutrient studies.
Another site where they are good at explaining the variables in such studies is www.vrp.com in their newsletters. It should be in their next one. -

Yay, there you are. Last you posted, two weeks ago, you said your shoulder was so painful that you couldn't sleep.
When I increased my fish oil to 2000 mg of EPA daily, my muscle and joint stiffness improved. I'd say don't stop taking fish oil...that study was not definative.

- just don,
why no salt? Every one needs salt to live. It is required.
[Of course, not in processed foods but from added SEA salt we control. Even heart patients need salt, the research is now finding out. Wrong advice for years about that. It's all about the RIGHT KIND of salt.]
With increased heat & sweating, salt TABLETS can be life saving.
About your fish oil, just be sure both the oil and the gel caps are the absolute very best quality, certified.
And/or you may want to EAT more fish. WILD, never farmed - and also certified to be "clean"
Wild Salmon from Alaska is best.
For sardines, WILD PLANET is a "clean" brand, certified. -

PANEL FINDS NO BENEFIT IN SHARPLY RESTRICTING SODIUM

The New York Times - May 14, 2013
Excerpt:
. . . There are physiological consequences of consuming little sodium, said Dr. Michael H. Alderman, a dietary sodium expert at Albert Einstein College of Medicine who was not a member of the committee.
As sodium levels plunge, triglyceride levels increase, insulin resistance increases, and the activity of the sympathetic nervous system increases. Each of these factors can increase the risk of heart disease.
``Those are all bad things,'' Dr. Alderman said. . . . -

Perhaps switching to coconut oil would be a good option since it is antifungal and helps reduce pain. Also have read that it helps with alzheimers. For me, it helped a great deal with brain fog and pain.
Just Don,
Have you considered adding vit C to the sea salt? Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine and could help cut down pain. Parasites are know to cause a lot of pain. Maybe consider adding an antiparasitic.

- For sure, I'd not take the same brand of fish oil used in the study. I tend to think they did not use the best sources.
Berberine has cut my pain a great deal. FWIW. It's amazing that way. I can also see my body become smaller as it addresses inflammation. Amazing. The puffiness is much reduced.

Another thing to consider in that "study" is that it was done in the UK. They may not have good products there. The pills could be full of junk. In Europe, they have Codex and much supplementation is controlled/not allowed. So I would really suspect this "study" as not being valid.
Be sure to buy good quality fish oil, not the junk in WM.
I would add a bit of sea salt to your water while at work. That way you don't get "behind" on the salt intake.
Avoid regular table salt. You could always supplement with Iodoral (iodine). Just take one a day to save you money.
Iodoral has 240 tablets (?) per bottle and costs about $38. So it would last you nearly a year.

- TuTu,
I sent that good link to many friends. I hope others will, too. We have to be part of the education "vehicle" where the media fails. Pass it on, please.
Adding to TuTu's link, you can just copy & paste this:
Fish oil? Look beyond what you see in the news.
Recent headlines seem to discount the effect of fish and fish oil in one's diet. As the media is in the business of headlines and seem to disperse details without real journalist research, this can offer some clarity:
