it will be paid by 4/15 next year if i pay what i said i would pay. they agreed-but now they are adding on about 150. each month penalty and interest. so it wont be paid...thats a lot to add on

i know this isnt really a LYME thing...except maybe if lyme hadnt screwed up my brain maybe i could understand this.

my accountant said i could bring papers to her and she would help me figure it out...but shes an hour away. i cant do that now.

Most unfortunately...the IRS can do whatever it wants...your accountant is your best recourse...maybe you can fax her the paperwork.

Sorry to hear... that's for sure!!!

Doesn't seem like the penalty and interest would be that high. Wasn't this for 2012?

Call and talk to them - yes, the IRS - a real person (likely in a city closest to you, by phone or in person). Yes, they do have real people who will talk with you. And they are very understanding, even if they have certain rules they will try to help and do have some power to help in some ways.

I was able to get the penalty and interest to stop accrueing (sp?) while unable to work. I was declared "uncollectible status" due to disability.

Still would owe both taxes and penalty but at least it would stop adding up and no payments (because my income is so far below poverty line) required while disabled. if/when that changes, other arrangements can be made.

Nothing can be "erased" from the past but being officially on hold for interest from here on would be a true relief, if you qualify for that.

But you have to talk to them. They can't freeze or formalize anything until you talk to them.

See what they may be able to work out for you. I found them very kind and helpful. Really.

Sorry about the extra worry,LP. As I understand it, Keebler is right. As long as you keep showing willing to pay something, and can document some of your medical difficulties (wasn't there a head injury at some point?), the IRS should be able to work with you without punishing you with penalties and interest.

You can find their main number with a web search. Then, they may connect you to someone in your region.

Call first, don't waste the energy going in. At least not yet. I did it all by phone.

On letters they send to you, there should be a actual phone number listed.

Yes, you can call!!! I've never walked in an office to talk to the IRS. I have no clue where the local office would be located.
