Revving up for a good week! A little snow and ice here, so I may be slip sliding into the week.

Hope your week is warm enough to get some activity in.

Snowed a little more than an inch here today.

Hubby went out a few minutes. Threw a snowball at the dog, who decided to eat it!

Soaking his feet in epsom salt water.

I just shoveled--not much to shovel, but now it is freezing rain. I know I will not want to get out bed tomorrow to go to work--I hate fighting the icy parking lot--slopes down towards the building.

Hiker-those slopes are the worst! My parking ramp is like that too. It's like throwing dice-can I make it?

Manname-haha! Dogs are so funny! I bet you and your hubbie got a chuckle at your dog eating that snowball.

Today I hung up some Christmas lights. 7 strings. Had to use a stepping stool for some of them.

I was still in my housecoat while I fixed them, but it feels good to get them up.

They look nice and I feel like a good neighbour now.

im supposed to wake up to it. i bought a propane heater today-a little one that is supposed to be safe in the house.

i have everything else-lamps, little stove, ice...

and its town water so it doesnt seem to stop like when i was on the farm

i have been on a 3 day cooking spree. there has been a lot of rest in between and i cant believe how sore my muscles are from cooking.

but i did get a lot done and last year all my adult kids who live far away were really happy to get the goodies so i am glad i could do it.

i dont know how many of each i made but there were breads: pumpkin, pecan, cranberry-banana walnut-apple, almond, raisan-and blueberry almond.

and choclate chip pecan cookies (i only ate 2-honest!) and oatmeal raisan cookies too.

and about 9 cups of candied pecans cuz that is what everyone raved about last year.

i cant believe how sore my back and arms are.

but that for sure is my exercise.

hope all survived this week ok---weather sure is wierd.

It's still bad here. I haven't been outside since Wednesday other than stepping out on the porch to take pictures!

Very icy and more snow is on its way tomorrow. About the time it will thaw out (Thurs or Fri) MORE is scheduled to arrive! ARRGH!

I hope it's not like this all the way to next spring! [Eek!]

kayak.. all the baking sounds great. My mom was the ultimate Christmas sweets maker. I just shared her praline recipe with a friend of a friend and it made me feel good to keep Mom's spirit alive! The friend made them and she said they were delicious!

fun to read all of your posts.

When I read hiker's, I got this picture in my mind of you sitting on a large plastic lid and sliding into the building. [Smile]

...dodging cars along the way and asking for help getting up

Hiker will get a kick out of that, kam!

sure will, kayak!

We'll call these pralines "Della's Pralines" after my mom.

Combine in large saucepan 2 cups granulated sugar, 1 tsp baking soda, pinch of salt, and 1 cup buttermilk. Cook over medium heat 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Now add 3 cups pecan halves, 1 tbsp butter and continue cooking 5 more minutes OR until mixture forms a soft ball when tested in cold water.

Remove from heat. Stand by while mixture cools slightly, add 1 tsp vanilla and beat until mixture begins to lose glossy look. Drop by spoonfuls on foil.

In cooking, use a large saucepan as the mixture boils up while cooking; and use a long handled spoon for stirring as it will pop out and burn your fingers. Don't worry about the white color, they will be brown when finished.

(Mom's recipe called for "oleo" or margarine. I substituted butter .. both should work)

Kam--We used to borrow cafeteria trays in college to use as sleds. A little wax and they zipped down the hills in Minnesota.

Wow those would probably be too hard for mebut i bet they are good.
Ihe only ingredients in mine are: pecans, eggwhites, water, brown sugar, and cinnamon and i use half the sugar. Called for and everyone loves them

But they arent a real candy. They are fancy pecans

I dont believe it but i guess i have to go shovel. Therrs only two inches of snow but now its switcing to rain and then freezing so if i dont shovel it will be an ice rink

I'm jealous. I'm from northern Maine and miss the snow terribly! Living in Bama now. Heater hasn't been on during the daytime yet. Usually only get to do that in February. Set it for 70 before bed each night, but it rarely turns on. Today my kids went to school with no jacket on again (winter coats aren't needed here). I hate that my kids miss out on the snow growing up. Some of my most memorable childhood moments are playing king of the mountain on a snow hill taller than my three-story elementary school, walking across the big frozen river to go ice skating, getting hot chocolate when my toes grew numb from the snow, falling through the snow when trying to walk on top of it and loosing a boot once I got my long leg back out. Didn't ever recover lost boots in the snow holes until the spring. Feel bad for my parents though. My mom had to climb out the kitchen window and shove snow away from the door so it would open and we could get out of the house each day, and my dad had to un-burry the car from beneath the snow each morning and shovel a path down the driveway to get out. We were too poor for a snow blower, but boy did we need one! Guess Alabama has its own advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that I can't be outside in the summer for more than five or ten minutes before passing out.

wow ellen i ccan really relate to so much of that.

i am in south nh now but a few yrs ago i was up north and often when it snowed i set my alarm and got up every 2 hrs to "sweep" the snow in front of the door so i didnt get snowed in...if you dont get it out and it freezes you need a pick ax

today it was 2 inches of very wet snow and then sleet and frozen rain...i was counting on real rain to wash it away but that didnt happen

snow is nice...if it isnt too much...makes everything look so clean...but this ice i dont like at all.

i think i only shoveled less than an hr and when i came in i sat in the chair for hours...only getting up for meds...but i still really hurt. i need to put ice on to get to sleep

but those were wonderful thoughts from my childhood...thanks for reminding me

I went to work today and it snowed.
Walking on the slushy snow at work used my abs.

To balance. Forgot I had abs. Haha.

Felt good to get out in the cold. Feels good on the noggin and I got to watch the ducks in the heated pond today.

It was real nice.

We did that in Texas when I was in college! We got about 6-7 inches of snow and we Texans had not seen that much snow before!

Wind is whipping up and I cannot walk outside (too icy anyway). Stayed on my feet a lot at work, but I really need to start exercising more.

My blood pressure was higher yesterday than it has ever been. Normally I am very low, but the last 6 months it has been creeping up and I don't want to take meds. So, someone give me a swift kick in the rear to get my "butt" in gear.

Almost quitting time here at work so I'll be quick.

No exercise for the week so far. Rested over the weekend and still not feeling well.

Loved reading everyone's posts about winter time.

I don't miss the ice and snow in AK at all. I've gotten spoiled down here.

See you all tomorrow!

Hi there, AK!! [hi]

Hiker.. are you taking a high quality magnesium?? (anything but oxide, please) It should help the BP. Keep an eye on it.

I actually got out of the house today! First time since last Wednesday. The sun was shining too!!!!

We got groceries then went to church to help decorate the tree.

Still plenty of snow on the ground. My car is still covered in snow, but at least it was above freezing today! Progress!

Wednesday-Washed a load of towels then went to the walk in clinic before work. Have a sinus infection. On steroids and Augmentin for about 10 days.

Am so grateful that I've been able to work so far even though I haven't been well for going on 2 weeks now.

Hope the meds get me on my feet soon.

I loved reading all the posts again about winter time. Really puts me in the mood for the holidays!

See you all tomorrow!

i didnt do much more today. started the day with frustrating left over doc and lawyer calls from yesterday

then meds etc and fell back asleep. i cant believe how sore i am from a few minutes of shoveling. 2 inches of snow.

i made a fish chowder and did yesterdays dishes. also opened ALL the curtins cuz it was so sunny...but doing that is hard on my arms and chest

the heat of the day it was 29 and i went out and tried to shovel the 1/2 inch we got so it wouldnt turn to ice but i was too late.

i went in garage and found a few christmas things...and dragged the tote to the carport---it was very hard...so tired. never recovered.

now i am trying to find papers i need for neuro appt tomorrow but i am moving really slowly

when i turned on evening news i saw there was craziness going on all around me...i heard the sirens but thought someone had driven off the road in the ice

went to neuro and lawyer appt

ok news. could have been way worse.

it was exercise putting walker in truck-tying it down-getting it out-twice without falling on ice and walking in and out of both places.

i crashed when i got home -after loving on etta some and giving her a belly rub-even that counts as exercise now and makes me sore.

oh-and opening and closing the curtins again cuz it was sunny again-and i think saves on heat costs...but it makes my arms so sore.

i think i do better when i take 2 of dr mercolas coq10 a day...it is just so expensive

so tonight i will rest from today and now i need to drive to irs office again...maybe tomorrow...maybe monday.

and when i can i will finish a little of christmas baking and get get them in the mail.

today i told the neurol i appreciated the way he kept me focussed ...he is kind the way he does it. i said most docs...even neuros who should know...are not like that. he accepted my compliment to him and it didnt get filed away. those of you who suggested i not write it were probably correct.

what did get filed away was the letter from the lawyer asking him to write a lettter. so we found it filed in medical records and hopefully the wc lawyer will get a good letter

still cold here and 6-12" snow coming saturday night and plow guy isnt answering his phone

Thursday-Woo Boy!!! Something has kicked in, probably the steroid shot. I don't know why but when I'm on steroids I feel better and have so much energy.

Woke up at 7. Made speckled butter beans with smoked butt for dinner along with homemade cornbread. Froze leftover cornbread for squash dressing casserole.

Vacuumed kitchen and front bathroom and mopped floors. Sprayed shower curtain with soap scum remover. Washed, dried and put away a load of clothes. Did quite a few dishes.

Used electric razor on super hairy legs, got ready for work and did some filing for a couple hours.

Still have more energy.

What is it with steroids giving me so much energy? I've noticed this almost every time I've had to take them. Adrenal issues or what? Anyone know?

Anyways, see you all tomorrow!

Friday-Got only 4 hours sleep and have had a headache all day. Could be sinuses.

Wrapped presents and that's about it. Here at work and am having a laid back day so far. Co-worker did the filing so I'm just on the phones. Yeah!

Going to grab a hotdog after work, gas and then on to the grocery store.

That's the plan anyway.

Kayak-My cortisone pack came with an insert that told what it's used for. Need to google something they mentioned about adrenals. I'm on the short term pack for 5 days. Thanks for the info though. I was on prednisone for awhile when I first got sick and gained about 40 pounds. I had this huge moon face too that left some excess fat and skin under my chin. Guess I'm stuck with that.

See everyone tomorrow!

Stay away from steroids, AK! Steroids can make you crash in more than one way. Yes, they put stress on your adrenals, but they can also make Lyme flare.

If you are taking them off and on it makes me wonder if perhaps your Lyme has flared up and that is why you are needing the steroids??

Steroids remove inflammation .. but in a dangerous way.

Steroids always make me so hyper I can't sleep. I haven't taken them in years and hope not to ever get on them again.

Did round one of snow shoveling this morning. My neighbor could not get his snow blower started, so I shoveled 6 inches--double drive. Now I am going back to bed as it is still snowing.

I will need energy for round 2 this afternoon. I will definitely need the chiropractor on Monday!

Saturday-Rainy here. Did all my running around last night. No exercise just putting in my 9 hour day here at the dealership.

Should just be on the phones today. Saving my filing for next week.

Guys, it would figure that there wouldn't be just a simple fix for endocrine issues. I was on HGH injections for about a year that didn't work for me. I gained 25 pounds that I still have and had abnormal breast growth.

Have been reading stuff about adrenals at drlwilson.com looking for some help. Interesting stuff there.

Anyways, the search continues for a better quality of life.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and will see you all later!

Awhile back someone asked me what I used for the pain that I got from the local pharmacy over the counter.

Well, the pharmacy where I use to get the spray went out of business.

So, I did a search on the web for it.

I came up with this but plan on seeing where else I might get the product.

http://www.sibleyswest.com/intense-muscle-spray/

My tail bone, lower back and lots of other places are hurting this am. The kind of pain that if you try and move it makes things worse.

I sprayed the stuff on me and am laying in bed. I am getting relief.

Next time< i think I will spray it all over my body before I get dressed. [Smile]

..especially whe it is one of those days. [Smile]

kam .. The spray looks interesting. I probably could get the same effect with the essential oils I am using. I have the peppermint oil, but not the eucalyptus. I wasn't sure I could tolerate the smell of it!

Just take care of yourself, AK.. have you tried making your own sauerkraut to get better gut health? That will help inflammation too.

Kayak.. hope things go well with the letter from the neuro!

hiker.. we got more snow today but most of it melted. We will get a big hit next weekend. I hope to heck we can get home for Christmas.

Lymetoo,

We had 8 inches and after I shoveled the snow plow dumped a load of snow in front of my driveway. Grr.

I have satellite T.V. and some of the channels I cannot get tonight as the dish is covered. Oh well, it will melt this week and then, as you said, we will get more snow next weekend. Travel is always so iffy this time of year.

AK--I don't know if you sleep well of not, but I have been putting a little bit of lavender oil on a Kleenex by my beside and that helps me sleep or I sniff a little bit--very calming. Maybe it will help my blood pressure, too.

i havent recovered at all but need to rest.

i shoveled a small amount-maybe 20 min when plow guy and his son were here.

plow guy is recovering from 2 month coma from undx thyroid problem????? scarey. they put him on meds when he woke up and he lost a total of 120 lbs and now his brain seems fine but his muscles are very weak so he can plow but the son gets out and shovels and my set up i need a lot of shoveling. i am so lucky to have found them and lucky he recovered.

so i need to also make one more batch of cookies to send and my holiday baking will be done.

so shoveling and baking are my exercise. i cant figure out why i get get so sore from so little...it is new since cancer and surgeries. i need to chase down sixgoofykids cuz something i read she said recently might be the answer

i am soooo sore and pain level is so hight...but i do keep moving...with many rests in between

kayak .. Didn't hear about the fire. I'll have to Google it. What did Sixgoofy say about muscle pain?
