When on narcotics for surgery my primary told me to take dulcolax for constipation. I used mag and c and senna and never used dulcolax . This month i used it twice...and got feverish and nautious and dizzy after. I didnt realize it was the dulcolax until it happened the second time

So today i was searching online to figure out how to feel better...last time i was sick 5 days-and i found out common side effects for ppl who take dulcolax when they are on omeprazole-like me are death, gout, vomitting and renal failure.

My primary prescribes the dulcolax! This is crazy!

Hi Ip:

This happens all the time. A friend was prescribed a med that conflicted with other drugs she was on and the combo would likely have killed her. Good thing the pharmacist was on the ball and would not dispense it.

Of course her husband was livid and fired the doc. I don't know if they were able to file a complaint against him.

I always look up whatever I'm prescribed for side effects and then decide if I will take it.

Unfortunately I believe most pharmacists know more about the drugs and interactions than the docs do. So if your pharmacist hesitates don't get mad at them, just doublecheck that the doc didn't overlook something.

Ugh!

That's terrible, LP! Close call! Glad you figured it out before gulp bad bad side effects happened to you.

Had too many close calls with a hole walk in clinic docs writing scripts and not checking.

One doc, from an older generation, was awesome. Every new drug, even supplement, he'd look up in a huge drug index before writing up a script.
Took ages but was always comfortable taking anything he prescribed and any advice he gave.

My LL is good too. Checks every week if my meds are tweaked, or a new supp added.

But run of the mill docs?! They don't care.

My doc prescribed augmentin when my "sinus infection" didn't clear up with z-pack.

I'm allergic to penicillin and didn't realize augmentin has amoxy in it. Good thing the pharmacist caught it!

BTW - this is the same doc that kept insisting that I wasn't having migraines, couldn't possibly have Lyme disease, and kept trying to treat my sinus infection.

Can I use my LLMD as a PCP?

There are rare cases of docs who are a PCP and a LLMD.
If yours is willing...go for it....

My PCP puts all my meds into a computer program to make sure all is well. It takes some time, but I don't mind.

My other pet peeve is doctors who don't read the chart with stickers all over it with allergic alerts......

Hi Kayak
There is one thing that is perfect,if you have the runs,or if you are constipated.

It will bring everyone back to the middle. It stops my diverticulosis every time.

Metamusil, but i get the Wallmart Equate fiber therapy. Same thing!! Less cost!!

Absolutely!! Tylenol can kill you. Aspirin can kill you. The list goes on and on.

-Thanks for the heads up on this!

Are you feeling better now??

Honest doctors will tell you that pharmacists know more than they do about drugs. My Dr is a former pharmacist. So that helps a little bit.

Thanks maddog...almost always all i need is senna tea once a week...i do take mag and c daily

I used the metamucil in the hospital and it worked fine

I also found out online that if you take a tums or dairy within an hour of dulcolax it makes the outside of the pill breakdown too fast and you get all the med too fast and it makes cramps etc

I couldnt read the small print on the package so i dont know if they warned you

I think it is wrong to allow print to be so small...there are times i dont have my magnifying glass with me

Half a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lime in it, morning and night (on waking, and just before bed) is what one astute physician told me would make my obstipation (severe constipation) go away...she was right...

Lymetoo, sorry you can't do citrus...I can't anymore either, but could at the time it was recommended to me...

LP, I think they do but I'm not sure... I was also told a little sweetener was ok to add (honey was what I used, but stevia, xylitol or something similar would probably be fine too)...
