I just returned from 2 weeks in PEI, Canada where I spent a lot of time outdoors. I remember reading a recent post by someone looking for a good insect repellent but I could not find it in my search.
I used a new product called Lyme Guard by Ticks-N-All that I purchased at a local Lyme support group. This stuff was amazing! For the first time in almost 20 years, I did not get one black fly bite!
They usually love me up there and devour me despite using a permethrin treated scarf around my neck and hat to cover my head along with all kinds of insect repellents. My husband used the deet insect repellents and he got bitten in several spots. I used Lyme Guard and did not get one bite!
I will be ordering some more. I have no connection with this company but wanted to share it. I was not in a heavily infested area for ticks so cannot endorse its use to protect you from ticks, but my guess is that it works well!

Interesting. I wonder about spraying this on clothing. Will it change the color, leave a mark? Website says nothing about this. Presumably it washes out in the laundry?
I remember a trip up that way years ago with the absolute worst mean biting gnats.

I did notice some mild staining in the neck of a white tee shirt that I wore on a really hot day when I used the repellent. I washed the shirt again today and the stain seems to be coming out.
I don't think it is meant to spray on clothing. I think it works by creating a chemical change when combined with your skin that somehow fools the bugs.

Again, I was not in an area that is heavily infested with ticks. I don't know for sure how well it would have done to repel them. But it certainly worked well for those little black flies (gnats) that usually devour my neck. Also worked well in repelling mosquitoes.
I think the safest thing would be to use permethrin on on your clothes and use this on your skin.
