I'm sorry you went through that. I wanted to have one but a woman was recently raped and robbed at hers so husband says no way. he's got alot of valuable things in the garage too.

we recently gave over 15 bags to goodwill and that was only our bedroom area.

we just had a food drive and i cleaned kitchen and gave away two garbage bags full.

it's a job and you tried. pack it up for goodwill now.

wow randibear!!! good for you!

you are right. it could be unsafe too. there was a creaper buy here today. myhubby was here, but I get such anxiety and think maybe people even come back later! I just found out my genetics are the absolute perfection for ending up in the hospital for anxiety, so I am sure I will now be thinking about this a lot. haha, although, not a laughing matter!!

I do have a lot of bags for good will.

It's that time of year, isn't it! I'm sorry no one came! I've found that what works to get people there are SIGNS .. signs everywhere.

I took two bags of clothing to a thrift shop that helps those in drug recovery.

I found some nice books there and two Bibles. All books were 5 for a $1!! They got two dollars from me for 6 books... donation.

I'm going to go back there when they get the books organized in categories. They were working on it today.

There are more and more break ins and robberies around here

I never heard of it happening at a yard sale tho

I sell stuff thats worth something on craigs list

Other stuff i basiclly give it away...sometimes everythings a dollar on sturday and free on suday. Less for me to cleanup

Im gonna have to do that again soon. I thought this would be bad weekend with holidsy....but i wasnt ready at all anyway

well, I NEED the money from my yard sales. we are about to live in a cardboard box.

I am going to try again Friday. now that it is all nice a neatly packed and in one spot with prices on it it shall be easierER. most of it is vintage from my on line shop and it worth some money. I could put it in my shop on line but then I have to ship it and all that and that is harder work, so....

I usually do put up lots of signs. the people that came in the beginning - I mentioned to them how no one is coming and they said the town a few miles down was having their gargantuan yard sale at the community park and everyone was there.

o well. we shall see how Friday goes!

Yes, just try again, Lisa. Put out signs at nearby major intersections...ones that lead to your neighborhood. Make clear directions, or use arrows...whatever. Make sure they can read it.

Even add balloons if allowed. Good luck!!

I sell things of value on our local FB pages (like Craigslist but safer).. and I also take my better clothes to the consignment shop.

We advertised in the paper and listed some of the things we had.

Had some tools, bikes, and furniture, which seems to help get people to come out.

Advertising with a specific starting hour is a good idea -- hoping to dissuade those who might come earlier. But usually best to open by 8 a.m. even if someone else has to start it out for you.

7 a.m. might even attract more people. It's an early bunch, these folks who do this and really buy.

I would not worry about those who drive by and do not stop. They are likely just trying to determine if there are items they might want to buy. Still, just don't show any objects that are not for sale.

Always have two people, with phones. From there, expect only good folks and lots of smiles.

thanks for the pointers everyone!!

I think I will change some signs as they are old an dhard to see. I will put more on the busier roads too- like tomorrow - to give more ppl time to see them. I may put an ad in the newspaper, but I think it is like $30, so I don't kniow if I want to spend that money????
