Good morning all. Had to go to the ER last night. Silver was taking a supplement capsule around 330 in the afternoon yesterday afternoon and it got stuck in her windpipe and wouldn’t cough out.
Called the aide car and they put her on O2 and took her to the hospital. We were at the ER until a little after 1 a.m. this morning. X-ray showed that the capsule didn’t go into her lungs but all of the coughing it up has really made her throat and chest sore and she’s been up all night.
She is feeling better today and we appreciate all the prayers and continued prayers for her.

Thanks all, she's been trying to rest as much as possible. She is still coughing but it seems to have slowed down a bit.
Her throat is sore but she was able to get some breakfast down this a.m. She soaked a warmed up banana and GF waffle (torn into very small pieces) in a bit of coconut milk thinned with filtered water.
She'll be on later and talk with y'all. Thanks again!

Thank you for the prayers and caring remarks!!
I am still timid about eating,swallowing and so on.
Right now, I feel very pneumonia-ish, w/ Mono/Strep added[ just the weird worn feeling, and super stingy sore throat ]When I wake up coughing it's that rattling sound and wheezing.
I knew to watch for this,as liquids also went down the wind pipe. The supplement was very very bitter,and it made things sting worse.
I am glad to be alive, sore ribs, neck,and tailbone,the tailbone was the ambulance driver trying to hurry,and he hit a speed bump... hard, didn't help them either.
It might have brought some of the capsule up sooner from the harsh bump tho'?!
Will probably follow up w/ my Dr. in a couple weeks after payday, it is pay as you go, I have no insurance still.
The programs were too costly. And wouldn't have helped at this point, the plans make one pay a large amount out of pocket, before they kick in.enough that I/we couldn't afford the insurance payments and the Dr. as well.
One of the Aides spoke to us,about the insurance problems, many of them cannot afford insurance either, and they work at the hospital. That is really outrageous in a bad way [full time part time situations,not everyone gets hired full time.
Better get in the chair,before I cough to much again, I get light headed.

Lymetoo, I looked up the Sjogrens syndrome, I have very similar symptoms,and try to stay hydrated as much as possible. We cannot afford, the testing, but I'll ask the Dr. when we get in to see him.
Better close for now, I'll try to check in later on. Have to brave the shower in awhile, and we'll see how it goes.

Very scary, Silver. Maybe that bumpy ride DID help dislodge the pill! I swear those ambulances are extremely rough! A friend of mine was talking about it recently and I said NO KIDDING!! They are horrible.
The doctor who dxd me with Sjogren's was really looking for Lupus. He used an "auto-immune" panel of some sort. Just a simple blood test.
Hope you don't have any more trouble with the swallowing. I haven't had too much trouble with it, but I've been having more esophageal spasms lately. So painful!
I'll keep you in my prayers, Silver!

Lymetoo, since you mention esophageal spasms, I thought I would tell you about my husband's case.
He was diagnosed years ago with esophageal spasms. Things got worse and worse for him regarding swallowing. He sometimes regurgitated his food while eating.
He went to a new gastro for a different complaint and that doctor noticed a widened esophagus. After some swallowing tests, it was confirmed that hubby had achalasia.
This must be treated. Otherwise, it will eventually "wear out" the muscles of the esophagus and cause your esophagus to stop moving at all and there is no remedy for that. You have to get a feeding tube.
So, the gastro gave my husband some Botox injections at the base of the esophagus. It relaxed the muscle there that was not allowing food to pass into the stomach. This had put such stress on the esophagus that the spasms had become severe and the esophagus was widening.
It is now 5 months since the injections and all is still well. He is a new man! Doc says it should last 6 to 12 months. We will just repeat the procedure if the spasms or swallowing problems start again.
So, consider this. If the sphincter muscle at the base of the esophagus won't open easily, it strains the muscles of the esophagus (they have to push very hard to try to get the food down into the stomach) and they spasm and cause pain.

Silver had a really rough night. At 11 some idjit was setting off a couple fire works (which I slept through) and than at 1 a.m. someone set off a bunch of Roman Candles (that did wake me).
Once she was awake the cough started back in. She is finally now getting some rest behind me in my recliner.
Idjits.

Our pcp told us that a regular pain pill like hydrocodone can be used to stop coughing.
My husband had such horrible coughing one time that he told us to do this and it worked.
Not to be used for any old coughing, but that is not what Silver has, so if you have some old hydrocodone (also called Lorcet, Vicodin, etc.) she may want to take one to stop coughing like this that is keeping her from sleeping. Take a little food with it to prevent stomach upset.

- A tiny licorice pellet works for me, every time. Wish I had known about this as a cough stopper decades ago. Very soothing to the throat, etc. and anti-inflammatory. Only the kind below, though for blood pressure safety reasons explained.

- Oh, just remembered that SLIPPERY ELM BARK makes a very nice gruel that is soothing to the esophagus, etc.
QUINOA FLAKES also make a nice gruel so as not to scratch. And surprisingly, it's very nice on the glycemic index due to the good protein & fat content. -

Thanks for the tips and ideas, right now, I'm still pretty much afraid to swallow. When I start to cough it is foamy ropes of mucous, and is hard to get it all up [Sorry,if that's TMI ].
So I swallow soft soft stuff very carefully, and pray it doesn't go down wrong.
Keebler, for some reason, Licorice always makes me ill to my stomach, my grandma used to use it for her lungs and digestive problems.
I do like the sound of a slippery elm mush sort of thing. My throat/esophagus/wind pipe area is pretty raw. Will have to wait for payday tho'. I wont be going anywhere tonight, as to much smoke from fireworks would make this worse.
Going to try some really mushy GF stuff in a bit, hopefully it will behave.
I appreciate the kind comments and prayers,and will look forward to speaking w/ my Dr. in a couple of weeks for tho'ts on what could have caused it [I'm really wondering about the Sjogrens ].
This was very frightening,and will take awhile for me to get over it. Plus the bitter herb really stung and burned as it slowly came up.
Trying to figure out what I could safely take now to continue treatments, I've wondered about liquid supplements, but have to wait on everything for a bit because of serious financial constraints.
Will try to check back in in a day or two,again, thanks for prayers and caring words.

I'm still rather weak, and coughing quite a bit, I did try a bit of very soft fish [tilapia] and some green beans for lunch. It is behaving so far,but I am not eating much yet.
The coughing risk is still very great,so I only eat a little at a time. I guess it'll take some time to feel like me again. Even my tongue is sore and swollen from all this, w/ white spots on the sides.

Yes, I feel starved but a couple few bites, and I'm full,or I start to cough and then I stop eating for awhile so as not to have more issues.
And I am so worn out, that I cry easily, if I do much of anything, I start getting shaky.I hate feeling this weak.
TxC' says it is from the trauma and the adrenal expenditure, he's most likely right.
Trying to find supplements that are safe for me... I don't know, if this hasn't calmed down more in the next week or so I'll have to find inexpensive liquids.
I rather feel I've gone backwards from all this mess, I wasn't making much progress before, but now... I'm so discouraged.
Trying to keep my chin up, as a dusty muzzle wouldn't do this Wolfi-girl any good.
